Ne.. In my dictionary Bleach mean whitening; material to make clothes white.
So if Ichigo had a bleached hair, why he had a orange hair, not white?
"bleach" used in that context is used mostly just for clothes
    whitening clothes
but when it comes to hair, it just means dyeing your hair blond

    Re: Why Bleach named Bleach?

doing alot of searching i've came to the conclusion that since the artist kudo loves music english or american and that' pop music is very popular in japan; that the bleached hair style came from his love of 'pop'. Thus the title. Also check out zombie powder! His first title that was first released in shounenjump 4 volumes of goodness.. but the ending makes u wonder... seeing the ending isn't really a ending.
hope i brung so type of conclusion to the reason of the title.

    Re: Why Bleach named Bleach?

My theory for the title is this:
The duty of the Shinigami (at least in the beginning of the series anyway) is to guide lost souls to Soul Society and purify Hollows to send them back as well. Bleach is cleaning product after all... so the title could be linked to the 'cleaning' of the souls.

But of course, Jaderabbit could be right too.

I don't really think it has anything to do with Ichigo's hair, exclusivly, since wasn't he born with bright orange hair?
Thus he wouldn't have ever bleached his hair in his life.

Ichigo's hair color is natural and if u read the manga u will notice a lot of american pop-culture references (i.e. an al pacino poster in volume 3 as well as some other things i can't think of atm...i read about it in an issue of shonen jump)

Indeed, Ichigo's hair color is completely natural, it's the same color as his mothers was, bright orange. Bleach doesn't have anything to do with ichigo's hair color, I would lean more towards Hikari's theory than anything to do with a hair color.

Never thought of it that way...your theory seems clear and correct to me. I agree, very much...

I think Tite Kubo got the name from Nirvana's first album "Bleach". On the manga if you read the character profiles, you see that most of the characters like that early 90's punk music like "Jane's addiction". Although, that's just my opinion.

Actually, that's a pretty good idea. I think that makes more sense than mine does!
