![]() ![]() Credits: 110 | Wireless Connection I dont know how many of you use wireless, but I bet one without it would even know more than the linksys tech support. Alright, so all I want is to know how to have the Wireless option. I've tried using XP's help and support and they tell me to go into Network Connections and right click on Wireless Networks but i dont have anything in that folder that is under the name of Wireless Networks. The only thing in there is Local Area Connection which is used for a modem which i do not use on that computer. Any advice would be appreciated more than a linksys tech support employee. *******UPDATE******** : No longer looking to fix the problem but rather get new/better and also cheaper hardware. Thanks.

![]() ![]() Credits: 110 | Re: Wireless Connection No... I am using two desktop PCs. One has a router and modem hooked to it, and im trying to get my other computer to get hooked to the wireless using an USB adapter. I did all the technical installations exactly how I was supposed to but after the installation I never had a Wireless Network option added to my network connections.

So what kind of wirelss gear does your computer have??? (built in laptop??, PCI card??? USB device???) and what are you trying to connect too???

![]() ![]() Credits: 40,963 | Re: Wireless Connection Grumble Grumble Grumble If you don't have that Wireless conection icon, then something was not detected during the installation process... Try going through the network connection wizard for broadband connection and see if it offers the USB wireless device... And if it doesn't, run the network diagnostic check on the last page of the network connection wizard, and see if it finds and lists the device... If that doesn't find it, then it is a driver problem... How did you install the drivers??? Did you go through 'Add new hardware', or did you just run the installation program that came with the wireless... EDIT: Do a search of the Microsoft Help for the 'Wireless Network Setup Wizard', which should direct you to the proper setup utility...

| Newbie | Re: Wireless Connection First off, is the router you're using is also a wireless router? The linksys router I have is a Wireless-G broadband router. If you do not have a router that supports wireless, you'll have to go out and get an wireless access point but just upgrading your router would be easlyer. If your router does have wireless support (you'll know because you'll have atinas on your router), then you'll have to first activate it. Follow this steps on the computer that's connected to the router: 1) In your web browser, type in the following URL: http://192.168.1.1 ---This is the default router IP, you could change the last 2 octets (1.1) but you can't change the first 2 octets (192.168), but that's going too far 2) It'll ask for a username and password. There's no username so forget about that but type admin as the password (which is default). 3) First screen you see is your basic set up, which is your router's name, host name, etc. At top, you could see some links, click the link that's says "Wireless" 4a) Set "Wireless Network Mode" to mixed (or B or G, depending on if your network is going to use just G or B, I have set to B). 4b) Set "Wireless Network Name (SSID)" to something you'll remember. 4c) Set "Wireless Channel" to 1. 5) Save the settings. (you could disable the broadcast of SSID but why bother at this point, we're trying to set it up. Also, poke around with the settings after setting everything up). Now, on the computer you're going to use the wireless on. Keeping the USB (god awful, why didn't you just get a PCI card? It would of worked a lot better) unplugged, run the software for installtion (which I would guess you already have) and after it's done, plug in the USB for the Wireless USB adapter. Windows Add and Remove Hardware should start doing it's thing and load the drivers for it. Now since you've installed the Linksys software/drivers (which I would guess it's a linksys), then it should have also came with a program for setting it up. It'll be under Start>Programs (it should be on the very bottom, otherwise, just look for a menu that says Linksys or something) and open it's program. Follow the screen. Sorry for the last part... since all my computers are different, I can't really tell you much... my Dell Laptop is running it's own builtin wireless card, so can't give you much info there, plus the USB adapter that my other computer is using (hey, it doesn't have anymore PCI slots, otherwise I would of used a PCI one >_> ) is a Netgear, so can't profide much info... but hopefully it'll help you configure it a little and get you a step closer to getting it to work... oh, which reminds you, every setting that the Linksys program could let you set, you could also set in the Device Manager... just to let you know.
