Forum and Gallery Upgrade Today

Hello All,

Remember me?? Anyway, just a thumbs up that I'm gonna spend the rest of the afternoon doing a forum upgrade and gallery upgrade.

Just have some patience over the coming hours. They are quite major upgrades. I will open this thread again once complete.

Well, so far so good. If you come across any hairies, let me know.

Major changes are listed below with links for further reading:

• Tags abolished and replaced with a new tags system. This means all tags have been wiped to start fresh. Tags is now a default feature of the software thank goodness. Less hacking with future upgrades.
• Extended member profile pages. Checkout your non-zoints profile page. Here you can engage in chats and configure it with your own images and colours. So now we have 2 types of profile pages. The zoints one and the standard forum one. Some will prefer one over the other. If the consensus is strong enough, we could get rid of the zoints one.
• Reciprocal friendship amongst users.
• Public visitor messaging on profile pages with 'conversation' feature
• User picture galleries with user comment facility

Off to din dins now, and after that will head over to upgrade the gallery.

Looking good, I like the combined "notifications" tab we have now.

I do like the new profile. It looks more in keeping with the AO skin rather than seeing load of gif images animating in the background. Sorry I don't get on with the Zoints one much and I do miss the old blog system :P but thats just little old me.

Yeh, I'm not a fan of the Zoints pages either. I would prefer to see them go, but not sure of what others feel. The current default profile pages are much faster to load, and offer just enough fancy whistles to keep everyone content.

Couldn't you make it so the forum profile page comes up as default and then you have to click on a link to view the voints?

What's with it making the avatar 50x50px in the mini stats section?

I was hoping the gallery upgrade would fix this but it didn't. When you upload an image that has special characters in the image description it doesn't display the special characters properly. It seems to work fine for the keywords but not for the image description, I did not try the image title.

Efforts real appreciated ,Thank you very much DB ,and it's much nicer now *though i like the old forum page bottoms more! paper isn't exciting as a circle!* and for tags is it that every member can add up to two tags to any thread?

Glad you like it.

Gallery... The special characters not displaying in the gallery, please ask CB to look into it.
Tags... Fully customisable by CB as to how he wants it to work and permissions and all.
Zoints... yeh, it can be done to be the non-default. The new improved vb profile page can go as default. Again, ask CB to change this over. Simple task that I had done once before.

Here are my $0.02 cents on this matter.

I don't like zoints either. I was thinking why don't you guys (AO Staff) make a poll thread and ask the members whether they want zoints to stay or to go down the drain. Depending upon the majority of the votes in favor or against a final decision could be made regarding zoints. The new forum profile is much better than zoints anyway.

And those were my $0.02 cents on this matter.
