She knelt there with her heart in her hands,
Wondering what went wrong.
She was trapped in that room surrounded by death,
The conflict had gone on too long.

She had to tell someone,
But she didn't know who.
She tried ringing the police,
But the call wouldn't go through.

Two bodies were sprawled across the floor,
A husband and his wife.
Five minutes before, they both were shouting,
Until a bullet ended a life.

Then there was screaming,
Then there were tears,
Then there was silence
Which confirmed the girl's fears.

She had no more options,
The door slowly opened.
She thought to herself,
'This is the end'.

But the sinister figure
In the doorframe.
Pointed the gun at himself
And readied his aim.

He pulled the cold trigger,
With all of his might.
There was a loud, sharp BANG,
Trailed by the silence of night.

He fell down by his daughter's feet.
His soul was fading fast,
But with his final ounce of strength he said:
'Happy fourth birthday honey...
I hope it won't be your last...'
