    Dead Men (Ghazal)

Leaving wives alone to raise children tall as their own headstone.
For the fathers of these kids march in night joining ranks of dead men.

Many young men go to foreign land and are never seen again.
But we all know where they go, becoming part of the growing dead men.

Many have a good soul but on them the fighting takes a toll.
Six years ago all were alive then but now some are dead men.

Winter makes day longer than all seasons, they who survive are stronger.
Of all cold froze, it froze forever those fate chose to be dead men.

The Earth and machines continue to turn and fewer of those stars burn.
Some each day see their last dawn; they will be gone to join dead men.

Gave all and yet their names America too soon will forget.
It happens again and again, names are lost, they are dead men.

A shame they have to bleed, we face a future with few good youth to lead.
The greatest are spent in sand of desert land becoming dead men.

With heavy hearts they did kill for our freedom with will of steal.
For little pay they give what few afford, their reward; rest as dead men.

In the media it seems none remember they died for our dreams.
Filled their lives with sorrow so we have a better tomorrow; dead men.

Most return with scars from wounds that mend, some are brought to an end.
Raise an arm to those put in the way of harm: Those who are now dead men.

This poem is called a Ghazal. To clear up any other issues some styles require that certain lines be repeated. I try different styles once in awhile to challenge myself.
