Merlin’s Offer
For a contest.
Merlin’s Offer.
I have a tale to be told,
And the truth I shall not withhold
For in the time before we stand,
Kings of legend ruled the land.
The Romans washed across the map,
With warriors freedom, snared in trap.
Their fathers forefathers, decreed their deeds,
so for freedom they waged war with need.
Now among the warriors stood a man,
Arthur was he, a soldier on demand.
A roman child born into war,
He’d lead like his father had before.
Many battles did they fight,
Blood covered men slain in fright.
Bred to kill, Arthur led them still,
Many years passed with duties fulfilled.
A chance at last to be free,
Against the chains of a creed.
Merlin stood before them then,
And offered alternate kin.
“Raise you sword in our name,
and delay the kings unholy game.
Like you, we fight for a cause,
For true freedom with rightful laws.”
The words of this mystic came true,
And a fire within the warriors too,
For their fate had been to long,
And were ready to oppose the wrong.
Into the woods the slipped unseen,
With the British they were free,
To choose the death they would have,
and to lose the life of the Romans grasp.
