My gift

Since I was little
I often steal glances at you
No matter where you are or what you're doing
Your tired and lonely gaze never seem to go away

Remembering when you used to hold me tight
Till the sun comes up
You'll wipe away those tears
And pretend nothing ever happened

You lock yourself in your room
Crying silently
In the darkness I still see you pain

So every night before I sleep
I would whisper a silent prayer
Hoping the demons that disturbed you would leave

Naive I was as a six year old
I believed everything that was told
Mummy wasn't crying
She was just overjoyed

Time flew
And I had other things to do
Unintentionally it was
I forgot all about you

On this very special day
I want to give you a little present
A little gift to show that I still care
It may not cost a lot
Or even worth a penny

You found it beside you
And for the first time in years
I saw you smiling
My gift was the greatest of all
Me.

Awww! I was hoping someone would tribute a poem to all moms of the world. I remember I used to write short little poems to my Mother, and I still do write them every once in a while, not just for the Mother's day, to her happy. Such small things bring so much joy to the hearts of all people. Anyway! Your poem is simply beautiful, Elie. I like it so much. Keep it up!!!
