Nine

Nine months of waiting.
That's 270 days of confusion pain and hope.
Nine months of regret and feeling dumb, numb
and pretending everything is "just fine".

Nine times I've cried in public.
Totalling nine hours wasted on
looking crazy in front of folks I don't know.

Nine occasions of leaving my desk
to go have a good crying fit in the bathroom.
Nine hours of work that could've been finished.

Nineteen times have I asked "why do I bother?"
An entire paragraph's worth of text and wasted
breath on a campaign that leads to nowhere.

Nine times the amount of pain anyone has ever
felt is building up in my chest. Nine times the
resentment toward a certain person that grows
at an increasingly rapid pace.

Nine tries to make a stand--to find where one stands.
Nine times I've been lead astray. Ninety percent
of the time, I feel like what I do doesn't matter to anyone.

Nine hundred piercing needles in my heart.
A pain that lingers for what feels like forever.
Nine years from now, will I still be this way?
When I'm ninety, will any of this matter?
Will I even remember?

Ninety times, I've tried to forget.
Nine times, I've been told to move around...

Nine times, I've thought of taking it out on "him".
Nine years ago, he was my best friend. Nine months
ago, he betrayed me...

Nine months of time--wasted...
Nine months of energy--gone...

this is very sad....very *wipes a tear*....lots of sad emotion....i really like this poem. You're great at long poems.. it's like you're regretting something.

Thanks. I'm glad you like this poem. This poem means plenty to me. It's the most emotional thing I've written. It's the longest poem I've written, I think.
I sometimes feel like I regret the last nine months, but to be honest with you, I regret the last nine years or so. I've done some pretty stupid things and made some pretty dumb decisions in my past (not counting the last nine months, although you could I guess). So, I believe--as of yesterday--that nine is an evil number.

Anyway, thanks for the comment; I appreciate you taking the time to read my work.

I actually thought it was about pregnancy too, until somewhere in the middle and I was like whoah. Wait. That'sn ot what it's about. But it's mildly ironic that it was nine months...

Can't help the way you feel. Either can I. No use holding it against anyone. Life is misrible enough of it's self. I'm too tired to take nything personal anyways. I don't have that kind of energy.
