    To Be Proud To Stand Alone

    I roam through the the blackness after dusk
    Aware of the calm and the quiet,
    The night is disturbed by the cry of a lone bat
    Seeking a meal.

    My eyes adjust as my iris expands
    I see a small rat scurry through the undergrowth.
    The bat swoops down on its prey
    The rat had no chance.

    It ran
    it jumped.
    He catches the rat
    And with a cry, is gone.

    I smile
    Nature at its rawest,
    One must die so another can live
    No law exists.

    Except your own instincts
    The strongest survive,
    I am strong,
    I will survive,
    And be proud to stand alone.
