These Ten Little Words

I was sitting in my chair,
Thinking of what to say.
Looking for words to declare,
But the words just wouldn’t obey.

To put my thoughts into words,
I racked my little brain.
Until I saw stars and little birds,
Laughing at me while I tried in vain.

While taking a break to rest my mind,
I thought some music would help me think.
Opening the program I asked it to find,
A soothing song and not one that would stink.

Its choice surprised me,
But in a happy way.
It was the song that you gave me,
Way back on that special day.

Refreshed with thoughts of you,
I sat up tall and proud.
I smiled as some words rang true,
And I said them aloud.

Smiling as the phrase,
Slowly escaped from my lips.
Saying it without falter or daze,
Like I was an actor reading from scripts.

Closing my eyes,
I said it again.
Then I began to surmise,
So I counted the words to ten.

This was just what I wanted to say,
These words were not wrong.
I knew I would find a way,
I just can’t believe it took this long.

The words are so simple and yet so deep,
That they mean everything I wanted them to.
Words so true that they almost made me weep,
And now these words I say to you.

Smiling lightly I reply “Hola, Angie. Mi amor.”
"Te quiero con todo mi corazón.”
These ten words are the ones I adore,
These ten words remind me I’m not alone.
