To get your sig you have to get 50 posts (goos quality) and post your request on the Signature Request Thread and someone will make you a cool signature, like Rave made mine...
About the avatar... I couldn't figure it out for quite a while too, but it's that you have to be a community memeber to have a custom avatar (only few more days for me!
)
But it's actually all in rules so now you see how important it is to read them (the posting rulles are quite tough here, but they make the post quality better! and that's just worth it)

If you'd like to choose an avatar, feel free to do so HERE . Those are the only ones you are susceptible to, seeing as how you are not yet a Community Member. In order to reach that status, you would need to have a post count of 100. It's simple to get such a post count as long as you're active, and you post with quality. Spamming is not desired here in this forum for a heads up.
As for your signature, I'm pretty sure you can put one up, so long as it fits the signature height/width requirements. Sig rules HERE. Once you reach a post count of 50, you may request a member part of the Signature Design Team to make you a customized signature just for you!
