Haha no way, you'd have to see them in a sexual way at one point or another. It's a basic, almost primal instinct, to want to mate with a member of the opposite sex. That's not to say that you'd actually go through with any sexual fantasies you might have about your friend, but hey, no one knows what you're thinking so what does it matter. You can still be platonic friends, just keep those deep dark secrets to yourself. xD

I do not personally believe that male and females can not be friends with ANY attraction (not just sexually). I asked groups of people: Can guys and girls be friends without either of them having any attraction? There were yes and no answers. Funny thing is most of the ones that said no ended up hooking up with their 'friend'. lol so now I ask you the same question.

Right now I am dating my 3 years best friend. Before we dated we were just friends... then we got to the point to where we told each other everything (even what happened with each other's partners...) then we began feeling something for each other. Our partners both broke our hearts and we were there for each other to lift each other up... and.... 3 years later... we are dating and to be honest, he is the best bf I have ever had... because he didn't get close to me because he was attracted, he just found a friend. Same goes for me. So we got to know each other as our true selves.... so there is no surprises.
I used my example to say: Yes male and female can be friends... but they can't be close friends without getting closer than only a friendship. That's why when you have bf/gf be really careful with your opposite gender friends... not because you are going to cheat right away... but one can get easily confused.
As you say... we are meant to feel attracted for the opposite gender...
(or now a days... same gender)

Sexual fighting here! I am a man, so I must say they could be friends forever.

i have three issues with this

1what about gay people. they are fully able to be friends with the opposite sex with no attraction whatsoever to them

2. thats very stereotypical to say that males and females cant jsut be friends

3. i am a girl. i have a boyfriend on 15 months. ALL of my friends are males, i was brought up watching football, playing sports and no tolerance. i dont connect with girls, and i am not attracted to my male friends.

its very simple. jsut like straight chicks arent attracted to there female friends.

I do believe whole-heartedly that guys and girls can have a relationship by just being friends. I, being a guy with a girlfriend, have to have just "friends" and I am able to keep it at such a level by reminding myself that I already have someone who loves me very much and would be devastated if I were romantically involved with someone else. So yes, I believe there can be non-sexual male female friendly relationships.

As long as one of them is homosexual, there's no problem to it.
No seriously I see no problem with having friends from the opposite sex.
Although answering your question whether it is possible to stay friends without ever looking at the opposite in a different light ... This might sound like an excuse, but honestly I think that's not possible. Aren't these thoughts in all of us, just from the biological, genetical point of view or however you call that? Isn't just writing that you have friends of the opposite sex with whom you wouldn't start a real relationship proving the fact that you thought about them in a different way, even if it just was once to answer that question?
So you might think about your friend differentely sometime, but that doesn't mean to necessarily change your relationsip in any way.
