![]() ![]() Credits: 110,749 | Are the censors slipping up or helping? So, I watch a lot of TV and listen to the radio in my free time and I happened to notice a lot of things changing over the last few years. Has anyone noticed that what they show on television and play on the radio is getting bolder every day? Broadcast televisison shows more sex than the cable channels do now and you can hear threats made by rappers, saying they'll shoot a mofo on the radio (not directly, but we're not stupid). Everyone says that it's freedom of speech, or whatever and I agree to a certain extent. I believe that if the people want to hear the truth about our nation or world, let them hear it. If a song that touches political subjects or real life issues seems a bit offensive, it's because there's some truth in there and it should be heard. But don't you think that letting artists and producers encourage violence and sex in the media is taking it a bit too far? What I want to know from you is do you think the censors are doing some good in this country or slipping up--not doing anything to prevent media influencing people. Why do you think so? Personally, I think that they need to tighten up a bit. I'm grown, so if I wanna see grown up stuff, I can. I pay my bills. I'm responsible and I don't let the media brainwash me, so to me, I think that listening to songs aired on the radio about shooting and drug dealing is dumb. Letting kids watch acts of sex on television is dumb. Censorship sucks in some ways, believe me, I know. But, the youth shouldn't be subject to making the same mistakes we did through the media. |

I am a full grown man and like others I have the right to listen or watch what I want. but when it comes to kids you have to be prepared to compromise and stop it. what i want to say is this, censors should be careful about what they allow on the television or radio, and that is a fact. a adult can watch or listen to what they want, but a child does not need to see acts of violence or any of that until they are ready.

![]() ![]() Credits: 6,851 | Re: Are the censors slipping up or helping? i read an article about this in the the paper yesterday... or was it the day before? oh well... anyways, it seems that network people are competing with the cable channels, which is why the content is becoming more graphic in both content and language. Censors are working hard to put a stop to it, as well as non-profit parent groups, it's just that the networks are slow to act. writers admit what their writing is racy, but their defense is that the colorful writing adds to the humor... but if a line is funnier with say "pecker" instead of "penis", then they'll write it that way. as for me, if you don't like it don't watch it. and if you're so concered with your children, then either don't have a TV or ACTUALLY MONITOR what they watch. it's not rocket science people.

Movie previews, comercials, radio--you can't keep a CONSTANT watch on what your kid sees or hears. The more people feed into things, the more they become accepted. I like most TV shows, I just don't think that certain topics should be so easily accessable to kids. |

Upcoming Legend | Re: Are the censors slipping up or helping? I disagree I think that as Americans we have the right to broadcast whatever we want. They will have specific channells, stations, or shows designed for your taste if they didn't have these laws. Fock the FCC. About the television thing. As long as your teenage son isn't ordering porno movies on Pay Per View they should be able to watch whatever they want. And children. I wasn't able to watch beavis and butt head until I was 10 or 11 and they came out when I was 7 I think. So I'm saying monitor your kids until they turn teenagers. Anything after that is just pushing it.

i can't believe how lazy we've become, as parants it's our obligation to teach our childeren. if something looks questioable, and they ask about it we should tell them, of course in simple terms, and retouch the topic every so often. we're more concerned w/ our jobs & money 2 give a rat's rear about what they're doing or who they're learning from ![]()

Parents are supposed to teach their children the value of life, be it a bug or be it a human being. we are the role models that they should look up to, not some punk who they saw on tv. *I may have more to say on this subject but I cannot think of anything right now.*

![]() ![]() Credits: 110,749 | Re: Are the censors slipping up or helping? No matter how much you monitor you kids at home or when you're with them, that doesn't prevent them from finding other ways to access the very things we're keeping them from. Friends are influences and they have televisions and CD players and all that good crap there. Parents are supposed to teach thier kids, yes this is very true. But the media teaches kids as well. "It takes a village to raise a child." One to two parents versus the world usually doesn't work out so well. That's why there are so many kids in gangs or runnin' the streets, because parents just gave up and let TV/Radio babysit thier kids. |
