    Like that.

Actually it's called a "sin" tax. They believe it's wrong but for some reason (like all the smokers freaking out and slaying them in a hail of bullets jk) they can't successfully ban it. So instead they put a huge tax on it to dissuade people who care about money from doing it and to penalize the one who do it anyway.

The Anti-Smoking TV Ads you see in the US are a direct result of a court ruling where it was found that the cigarette companies not only knew that smoking was hazardous but they had lied about it and covered it up for decades. In a creative punishment the companies were ordered to pay out money for Ads against smoking among other things. In response to that ruling The American Legacy Foundation was formed where they make anti-smoking Ads aimed at teens, support quit smoking programs aimed at adults, grants for "innovations in tobacco control", and funding research.

The American Legacy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) or "charitable organization" and if you want to contact them their website is here:

Well, I am pretty sure as you say that most smokers know the consecuences of that habit... however a comercial against tobacco I think is not towards the smokers but to the new generation to prevent them for smoking... but that does not allow them to "out down" those who smoke... but I do think that the "warnings" are a necessary evil. And for the non-smoking places.. I think they are fair 'cos... not everyone wants to die early ya know... and some of us are allergic to it

ahhh I'm curious where you're from it's een a while since I heard someone call a smoke a fag. The government only cracks down on them so hard so that they have an excuse to raise the prices on them... it's reverse psychology... They say "No! You can't have that it's bad for you" at the same time they know that just by telling you that you can't have it will make you want it more... and therefor they can raise prices and make a few more dollars a second off of people who are enslaved by their addictions. (I'm sorry if that's a harsh way of putting it but eventhough you spend most of your time looking at a picture with a range of colors sometimes putting it in black and white can help you distinguish somethings better... I'm not saying that that's how things are for you but the governtment honestly doesn't care about my problems or your problems only thier own most of the time unless it benefits them like the false anti smoking front.)
Eventhough I've been harsh on people about smoking my entire life it's only to preserve my own life because I'm at the point where a breath of ciggy smoke is fatal. I think that people can do whatever the hell that they want tho I mean it's their life (for now) you might as well enjoy it while you can right!? I let all my friends know that I don't have anything against them for smoking, I'd just appreciate it if you'd keep it away from me thank you.
Offcourse I can totally understand your point, that is not the problem You are not the kind of person that I would dislike as soon as you ask me NOT to smoke. It's the problem that most people who never even tried to smoke that keep on telling me it's bad everytime. As for the 'Fag', I'm from Holland but kinda familiar with the UK language, so I guess that's where it came from actually XD

Smoke free places should be there for people like you actually, if there weren't then you wouldn't be able to live a normale life anymore because everywhere you go, every restaurant, every bar, there would be a thick layer of smoke filling up the area and ruining your life.

Re: Cigarettes (Or: "Squares for Squares?")

U know the one thing that bothers me 'bout the govt. and their campaign against cigarette smokin' is the fact that they condemn ppl for smokin', but aren' willin' ta do anythin' ta help them quit. The thing that ppl have a tendency ta forget is that cigarettes have nicotine and nicotine is an addictive drug, it has both chemical and psychosomatic addictive properties. It's not so easy as jus' puttin' them down and the longer u've smoked the more difficult it becomes ta quit. Whether than spend millions of dollars on ads and commercials whinin' and gripin' at smokers for smokin', why don' our govt. (federal, state, and/or local) ferry some of that money inta programs ta help smokers quit; jus' like they do wit ppl who r addicted ta any other drug? Seems like a double standard ta me, they want smokers ta quit; but they don' wanna lift a single finger ta help. Different ppl have different levels of willpower, and the longer one smokes the more that willpower waines, and there r many out there who need help in quittin'. It's easy ta complain and whine 'bout others and their habits, it's somethin' else entirely ta offer them help in breakin' those habits.

Sanity doesn't exist, it's just an excuse cooked up by crazy people to justify their actions. My myspace page: www.myspace.com/joemage

Why do we keep hearing people on television griping about cancer and emphyzema like it's a new epidemic or something? They almost got me last year, but I'm quitting for my own reasons this year. Anywho, what's your opinion about anti-tobacco campaigns? Are they truly necessary? BUT, if you're gonna go against something, campaign against something worth fighting against. Like coccaine/meth, alchohol abuse, CRIME... You catch my drift.

    Let's talk tobacco!

im so with you. being harrased to do something thats legal? they waste money on stopping something legal and continue to go on about not smoking cigs but the adds for "stop drugs" and "stop smoking" cant compare. there are far more presrciptions available and agencies and such to stop smoking then to quit coke, meth, crack etc.

***another piont of how people are so messed up.

LOL. "Light a fag," That's great! I haven't heard anyone use that in AGES! Where are you from? Like Corvus, I'm uber curious.

You've got a point. People tend to do what they're told not to do. So, saying "don't smoke, it's wrong" is like saying, "waste your money on us!" LOL. It's a vicious cycle.

Wow! I never knew that! So, let me get this straight: Big Tobacco has to pay for the very same commercials that bash them?? LOL. That's a riot!
