So if it were up to me I would go against the government in the situation.

I agree with both of you. I, myself had to find art on my own time--although I've been at it since I was about four years old. So I guess you can say I was born an artist. But most people aren't so fortunate. Most kids don't realize they have any artistic talent (or gifts, as I like to call it) until it's too late. Why would you rip something as important as art out of the lives of thousands of kids???

Art should definately not be cut from school. There are many talented students out there and even those who just enjoy the subject. Cutting art?! because what....there isn't enough people or its just a waste of money or something along the lines of that. (that's what i heard). There needs to be a more reasonable reason to cut the subject.

Why are there people who choose to knock art like it's nothing at all?! Without art, we'd all be dull!!! Keep art alive!!!
I'm talking about your standard painting, drawing, sculpting and such. Such art is only an occupation for a select few prodegies. I was not referring to animators or architects and the like, as they are engaging in architecture and animation, I mean art purely as the types of things you would see in a museum. While anyone can be an architect with enough effort, likewise with animation, music, and dance; the same is not entirely true with art. I support art and feel it is important, but I do not view it as a job save for the select few you see in museums and such.

You can't just condemn jobs involved with art to animation, architecture and museums. That's discrimination. Besides you left out comic book art. Drawing will land you TONS of jobs (including architecture)! Sculpting--I've seen places where there are people who get paid MAD loot for sculptures. Y'know; for cooporate businesses and such. All the cool statues and pottery and things of that nature; you can see that in just about any scyscraper. Dancers make money any way they can, same with musicians. Art isn't just for museums.

Capitalist america inherently discourages careers in art because they are generally not as stable as other careers and they dont help in boosting americas status as an international power. doesn't that suck? nah, i just pulled that out of my ass actually, though there may be some truth to it. certainly many kids abandon art after highschool because they feel more secure going into more familiar fields.

You are kind of right. I don't know if it's a solid fact, but you may be on to something.

    Re: Cutting art from schools!

I persoanlly don't think Art in elementary, middle school, or even highschool apply enough significant history in the course. It isn't unexpected to me that they see it as an extra expendable class. Not a lot of kids care to have a second history class or just learning about Picaso all day long.

It is a damn shame but things happen you know. If we end up fazing out art, it won't be too pretty of a sight. Just be glad that College can fill those spots for you later on. There is the off chance that people won't care about art because they weren't able to truly benefit from it's value, but hopefully College is the key.

Is the government mad?! Why deprive us from art? Art has taught us to look beyond just numbers and sentences! I love art and it will be hard for the gov. to do such a thing. Especially in all the states. I have heard about that though. They were planning to take out art in my last high school , but we protested and they gave it another year. I hope it never happens , because it is what holds everything else together. Art is culture and heritage. If we lose Art , we become mechanical beings.
