Without it, we'd be living in caves, or huts, or some crater or something. Painting: Paintings/Portraits were like early photos. Without painting we wouldn't have a single clue as to what any historical figures looked like. Without the painter--for all we know--George Washington could be BLACK!!

Without poetry and fiction, (yes writing is an art, I won't leave it out) we wouldn't have books interesting enough to hold our attention long enough to enjoy the writing and--mainly wiith kids unless you're a slow adult--learn new words; build our vocabulary. Without music and dance, we wouldn't have any rhythm and--in most cases--little to no coordination. Don't tell me that art isn't important, or that you can't become a better person without it; because art BUILT our society--not just here but WORLDWIDE!!! You can find art in caves, pyramids, scriptures, history books, dictionaries, buildings, cars... Everything that we own, use, read--maybe even wipe our asses with--revolves around ART! *rrr...*

Who decided all of those were art? When did they decide, and when do they tell us those facts? How do you know that those people who created the foundations of art thought of it as art?

Your idea of art isn't necesarrily or has always been recieved perceived as that.people don't look at a building and consider it an art piece passed down from the techniques and traditions from their ancestors.

Not a trade? Don't make me laugh. We have been calling sculpture, blacksmithing, architecture, and writing, a trade for hundreds if not thousands of years. Don't tell me they arn't trades when we considered them just that then, as we still do now.

People needed to eat and survive and most who built those buildings, made literature, and created our society, didn't do it to be remembered or create a foundation for the masses of the future through some spiritual enlightenment or self imaging. They did it so that they themselves and family could live on through the next day, decade, or millenium.

What you consider art now hasn't always been considered that. Yes maybe a few thought it was a work to be remembered and we certainly do remember them, but a building is just a building to a lot of people.

Who said art isn't important or doesn't matter? Who doesn't see the importance of art? Guess what, not many think it makes money. Your thought process of not thinking it is a trade has made it into something that doesn't resemble 1/4 of what it use to be. I wonder why they put these so called art experiences into categories?

"Art is not a trade!" Congrats on that little speach there, because those are probably the exact same words that the government uses to cancle art classes. "EVERYTHING REVOLVES AROUND ART", but not everything is art. :Clap Clap: Or is it difficult to think that those people follow the same pattern of an art lover such as yourself?

The knowledge you have now is not the aftermath of earlier art classes, but more advanced ones. You wanna learn about art? First you have to have the ability to comprehend it, and sadly enough, we don't get that ability till later years.

You wanna know why they are cutting art classes? Listen to yourself and burn that message into your mind.

And--in order to comprehend art--you have to start early on! I'm not talking about pulling just the advanced classes, they're pulling ALL art classes!! If you don't get art at an early age, then you don't get art at all, and you'll grow up to be a man who lives his life based solely on monetary value.

Yes, I said art is not a trade. And I stand by it. But at the same time art is something that is needed in our lives in order to survive. Just because I didn't call architecture or writing a trade, doesn't mean that you should pull art from schools. Just because when people--such as myself--say the exact same thing I said to government officials to protest pulling art from schools, that doesn't mean that the government is going to look at our views with a blind eye.

Not everyone is you. And people who share the exact same views as you are vastly out-numbered by people like myself. There are more artists in this world than you think. Not all of them are known, and most of them don't realize it, but there are.

Rofl. It is almost as if you take this thing personally like it it something just between the two of us. It is nice you can talk all that with feelings, but I say what I do without anything really. Better know who you are talking to before you actually start making accusations about them.

You know, even if there are more people who believe in your views more than the ones I stated earlier, than they are exactly as you say. They either arn't known or most of them don't even realize it. If they themselves arn't known and don't realize it, than why would the government? I mean this is the beast destroying all that you see, so why arn't these people out weighing them?
The government obviously doesn't care that there are silent people out there because they are just that..SILENT? There are more than I know. Good stuff, but from what you say, you can only believe there are more. Some are unknown and don't even realize it themselves right? How do you know that? Is it a gut feeling?

From what I have heard, they are pulling art from schools, not universities, and community colleges. Those guys actually have a say in this thing, so it doesn't mean they are pulling all art classes from preschool to HS. You can learn about art from anything anywhere.

You also don't need to start at an early age to figure out what art is. The beauty about art is that you can learn it anytime anywhere. What the hell is that man? I thought you were an art lover? Only until recently did I start taking classes to understand what art truly was and now; I am greatly fond of it, not only because I can relate to what these art fanatics say, but also because I can now understand the depth of the creations. A lot of people do this, and I am sure there are more than you realize. Good stuff on that, way to bring the art community down a notch.

Funny. I still can't get over that they don't realize it, they arn't known sentence. Rofl. They are obviously successful arn't they? lol And here I thought one of the government's reasons for banning art was just that.

First of all, no one made any accusations. Second: I agree with you on the fact that many are silent about what goes on--as far as removing art from schools. But I can't be one of those people who sits idlely and watches a valuable learning tool get pulled from our educational system. I believe that art can change lives. If it wasn't for art, I don't think I'd be half the person I am today.

I could agree with you on that myself, but unless they come out with a Million Man Artathon, I don't think it will make that much of a difference. Keep the brush in hand, it seems to mean soemthing to you, but it probably doesn't mean much to the guys wanting to remove art class.

Create a masterpiece to move them to tears, or make them laugh until they piss themselves. Either way, it probably isn't going to make a difference unless someone makes that kind of drastic impact.

I myself don't try to stop the inevitable, but move with the flow. I am no coward, but I don't look at life as some war with endless battles where I should constantly fight. I'll help when needed, but I will never lead the charge without a calvary riding behind me. It is pointless or either suicide.

Those silent brothers and sisters of yours are probably seeing it the same exact way, or they just don't realize that the calvary is actually in hiding.

Goodluck on that.

I'm not much of a fighter myself either. But if I HAD to choose my battles, I'd pick keeping art in schools--and in our communities--my crusade. ^_^

I haven't decided whether or not I'm going to protest against this, because it's like you said--it's social suicide. But, I can, however, do something to influence my community to embrace art.

Thanks for the good luck wish. I'm gonna need it. ^_^ I can see that we both like to help when needed, and I feel that I'm needed here in Minneapolis. Hey! Maybe I can teach my OWN art classes in the neighborhood!

Re: Cutting art from schools!

I never cut classes in my whole life. Even though I hate school still I never cut classes even in art class. I may not good in drawing but still. I have an interest in art. Art makes me happy when I feel sad. I use my imagination to make everything in it in my drawings. And still I am not good in drawing. But still I have an interest in it. ^_^
