It really depends on how bad it is, if it was major then they should be dead, but if it wasn't they should stay in jail.

    Thanks lifeforce! (:

    against.

    e.g.
he killed your sister(anything like that sitch)

his death couldn't bring the life of your sister. if you want him to suffer death penalty, you're just like him who killed a person. and what about justice? justice is in Christ.

The problem with this is that we get stuck to foot the taxes to take care of this criminal. While he gets to sit in jail, not work, watch tv, read, etc... Also if he is violent who is to say he won't kill again in jail? Prison doesn't work criminals repeat offenses all of the time. If we are going to use prison as a punishment then the prisoners should have no rights b/c they've given those up when they committed the crime. This may seem harsh to minor criminals but it would make the punishment of prison that much harsher, that way it would be a lot worse to get locked up.

Not really the circumstances are different. No justice is that his A** won't hurt anyone ever again. Also it would give me a sense of justice.

    Re: Death Penalty--For or Against?

The death penalty is of course just another barbaric practice which much like slavery, Europe got rid of before we did. We will eventually get rid of it and in a generation or two everyone will look at the death penalty with disgust.

Afterall, we look at slavery with disgust, but a few generations ago everyone was convinced it would go on forever. This is no different.

Besides, the death penalty is far more costly than life inprisonment, mostly because of legal fees in that the murderer has a team of 3-8 laywers working on his case for typically 8-12 years, all paid for by the state. Not to mention the prosecutor has a team of lawyers of similair size for the same 8-12 years, also paid for by the state. How much do lawyers make? A lot. How much do 10 lawyers cost for 10 years of work? Millions.

And that's just the expense of the lawyers. You have your legal fees, the court fees, paying the judge, paying the jury, all the fees associated with the countless appeals allowed and always taken, the costs of the exectution it's self aren't cheap either. Did I mention the cost of the original murder trial? Also add to that the cost of transporting the murderer back and forth from all the institutions he's going to be frequenting, the guards which must accompany him to and fro, and dealing with the crowding of people who either support his death or are fighting it with all they've got.

Oh, did I forget to mention the fact that encouraging people not to kill other people by killing people is not only hypocritical but also doesn't work?

You'd assume that Texas, which gives the death penalty to just about everyone, would have one of the lowest murder rates. But it's actually one of the higher ones, well above the national average.

So if it's costing us all a lot of money, and not deterring any crime.....

Why do we have the death penalty?

if your gonna be but to death they don't take years to decide and not many peolpe are put in a exocution sentence. i don't see how its like slavery becasue the death penalty is better than suffering for 40 or 50 years in a maximum security prison where you get to go outside like once a month
