They don't want to thought as diffirently, they don't want to be taught as someone who needs to be given that special care, at least what my 'disabled' friends said. And I agree with that. When I brok my leg and had to hobble around with a cane I was really irritated that very gave me that 'oh-poor-you-darling' look. Seriously, if I had to stand if for life and not for three months, I would have gone bananas by then. They are just like us, perhaps slow in academics, without the ability to walk, but they think like us, behave like us. So what is with the pitying look that really irks 'disabe people' and their friends? They have feelings, they can process thoughts, abeit slightly slower for some. SO? I definitely didn't want to be treated like a princess when I was injured. |

| AO Member | Re: Disabilities We are all humans. We have to understanding and respectful enough to know that maybe they can't do certain things we can but doesn't mean we still can't respect them for who they are. After all they could be somethings they can do that we can't (i.e try painting as well as a disabled guy that uses his feet to paint). |

| Newbie | Re: Disabilities I think that people with disabilities dont have anything wrong with them, per se. because really, the are just different to people without any "disabilities", and we are all diferent to each other anyway. it just annoys me when people call people that dont have disablilities normal, what isnt normal about having a disability?

God's Little Girl | Re: Disabilities The "Oh, I'm sorry," bit can't be helped. What else is to be expected of the regular person? If the disabled guy's going to take that as a snide remark, then that's his problem. But I definitely don't think that the handicapped should be treated differently... well, if they were to be treated differently, let it be in a positive way, not negative. After all, there are things we can do that they can't, so it's only right that we help them do it.

Newbie | Re: Disabilities Whether it is physical or mental disability those persons who have it should be treated equal. Evryone should respect them bcoz they are also human beings. And its not their fault that they have it nor they didnt want to have it. They suffered too much and then most people even make it worst. Its just really sad knowing that most people treat them badly and avoid as if they are plague. Such inhuman acts that makes me think that demons are even much better than humans. |

They are just different in that they have special needs and are handling more problems because they want to progress more. Having and mental or physical disability teaches that spirit is beyond mental or physical ailments. Having a disability makes one stronger in that it makes other senses stronger. The blind hear better. The crippled is more mentally active. The mentally ill learn to use their instincts more. Those with down syndrome are mentally challenged but certainly can understand what love is and what it is not. I do beleive people with disabilities are different - but in a good way. Hellen Keller, Stevie Wonder are different in that they took on extra challenges in life because they have the bravery, intelligence and perserverance to lead by example. The only caution is when a mental disease makes someone violent. Treatment should be sought after so people can live with dignity and understand their illness in order to control it with anti-psychotic pills and a good psychiatrist. Otherwise disability doesn't hinder life but actually outstages it. It takes a brave person to be disabled. |

![]() Otaku | Re: Disabilities People with disabilities deserved to be respected like everyone else, but we are still treating them differently, its common sense for example a girl is very ugly ( where in my opinion there is no such word or thing as ugly reffred to human) and you are very popular in the school, you wouldn't go up to the girl and play with her, you probley won't even look at her. but i am saying here even though some of us is trying to help, to make them feel belong to the group, but others will just leave them behind. ![]() |
