Guys and girls out there how many of you get discriminated for appreciating manga and anime because I know I do I mean my girlfriend broke up with me(she was really hot) because I told her I spend about two hours a day watching anime and that I collect manga. I mean why do humans have to judge so severely because they don't understand something?

Its just the way of the world man. Everyone discriminates someone for something. Even if you don't realize it, you do it! Everyone does! Its just because of the ignorance of people. Not saying everyone is stupid! I'm just saying that no one is perfect and not everyone has the ability to accept Anime and Manga as more than just childish. Everyone has different fews and thats what makes us all diverse. If you girlfriend brakes up with you just because you watch anime and collect manga then she isn't the one for you man. So go and find you that beautiful girl that is into anime and manga even more than you!

People are ignorant, but humans are able to over come ignorance. I try my best not to Discriminat but sometimes I do. Ignorance is the down fall of socity but it can be over come.

People discriminat for many reason but to me they discriminat becasue they think they are better then every one else

Discrimination is usually linked to fear of the unknown. She probably doesn't know much about anime/manga and she possibly has a prejudice towards it.
Educating people can overcome this. In this case, you need to make her see that there's nothing bad/childish/evil/whatever about anime and manga and the problem should be solved.

Or maybe she just doesn't like you ditching her for 2 hours a day instead of spending it with her (sure shows your priorities). You sound more upset that you lost a hot girlfriend then anything. Why would you even mention that? Just how shallow was your relationship that it was a factor in your disappointment? And how can you get angry that she left you for a shallow reason when you were with her for an equally toe dipping one?

yea i honestly dont like anyone like that. and i know i do discriminate but i try not to.
I get it alot though. Like they say its stupid cause its cartoons. They think that their is no importance in it at all. As if you get nothing out of it.
Like alot of people i know think that if you like anime then your like a porno freak and im not one.
Yet they put everyone together. And to me i think that their are just as many people lookin at that stuff that dont watch anime as do people who do watch anime.

Discrimination, discrimination, discrimination... The cases you're describing seem to be based out of the human urge to superiority.

People label everything, and then associate traits with them, negative, positive. Most of the time, things that differ from a person's norms are labeled negatively, so those things will be below and worse than the things that a person likes; basically, you like something "good," then you're good. You like something "bad", you're bad. Of course, if you're on the "bad side", then you have less power or value than the "good side". Again, people label "different" things negatively so that they feel better about themselves. Look at discrimination against women, minority races, and homosexuality; people ahve made themselves better by describing everything else as "bad".

Think of it as, human social selective breeding. The people against you don't want your genes to intermingle with theirs, because your genes might actually be better than theirs, so they're trying to butt you out. Something like that. Studying sociobiology will clear your questions up right away.

Listen me saying she was hot is trying to make a connection to what people see and experience everyday, I mean maybe it's because she was hot that she felt above me when she broke up with me plus we had a happy relationship before and I was quite a popular guy but as soon as I confessed my popularity went down the drain but I'm learning I don't need it to be happy.

You know all of you have very insightful points and they are all true but man did the chicks on this website kicky my ass for that (she was hot) comment but the thing is I thought maybe you would make the connection I did. I have to say thank you for everyone taking the time to reply to my thread it means alot and watching anime has really sharpened your human awareness so nice one, something I always like to see.
