Thread: Freedom vs. Security strikes again: new Internet legislation from Congress

this is just great. the government is really stepping out of line here. first of all, politicians has no idea about technologies and even the internet and yet they pretend they do. this is one fine example that the people should not give too much power and control ideas and concept of the people. first it's the internet, then it's the people.

This power is pointless because if you were to shut down the internet to cut off communications, well, terrorists have phones. They can write a letter, send a messenger, use morse code, etc. Considering that the bigger threat is an American terrorist, tracing a phone message would be even harder than tracking down a message on the internet, because you wouldn't know who to trace.
If you were to shut down the internet in order to prevent a terrorist from getting into something important to national security on the internet, then you shouldn't be putting things important to national security on the internet.
To be honest, taking control of the internet just sounds lazy. "I don't feel like searching through all of these websites." Well, suck it up. It's your job.

This thread is completely pointless. The government isn't able to shut down the internet. They do not physically possess the ability to do so. It's not like there is a plug labelled internet that you can just pull and everything will go offline. The internet doesn't work like that. It never has, and it never will. The internet is one thing that no one will ever be able to control, no matter how much power they possess.
