Thread: Growing amount of violence and terror all around the world.But why?

Could you please show me how you know that 'violence and terror all around the world' is growing? In trying to find out myself, I've only found evidence to the contrary. To me, it wouldn't make sense for crime rates to go up globally, rather than go down (mainly because better technology scares the people that would commit crimes into not doing them).

There seems to be this general consensus that human morals are going downhill, and that we're going to be killing each other in a couple of decades . . . but how would you compare our morals to those of the people in the French Revolution (and there are tons of other examples)? We're much more obsessed with good morality these days to believe that we're on the verge of ripping society apart.

There is really no evidence that that 'terror and violence' has increased, and compared to recorded history, there has been remarkable decrease due to better reporting and monitoring around the world.

As an example, situations such as the annihilation campaigns and forced relocation of Native Americans would no longer be acceptable with the current world political climate. Neither would the government organized 'Death Camps' or the mass fire bombing of cities of World War II be acceptable. And Religious Wars such as the 'Crusades' of the Middle Ages of Europe also would not be tolerated. Compared to these, why would you think that 'Terror and Violence' has been increasing???

I have to agree with what has been said before, there is no real evidence that violence is increasing.

Perhaps we just perceive that violence around the world is worse, because of our ability to report violence has become better- we do see a lot of it being reported through the media.

I don't think this time is any worse than the violence of previous centuries. Maybe even better, because (as Len said in the previous post), it's just not acceptable these days.

I'll let you in on a secret: The Amount of violence in the world isn't increasing, its been the same or has been decreasing (as Len said) with the exception of a few instances in recent memory (The Genocide in Rawanda and Bosnia, or the Tiananmen Square Massacre for example).

The only thing that has changed is the Global Media has made us more aware of what is going on around the world. This is thanks to the Internet and 24-Hour news stations like CNN, BBC, CBC and CTV Headline News.

Then you have to consider the fact that many news stations like FOX and CNN for example, sensationalize stories and more often then not blow them way out of proportion.

Hmm I guess so u guys are right the previous years were much more terrifying........and and yes technology has grown but as police methods grow so do the ways of violence JUST because police have sci-fi material does not have to necessarily mean that thugs and other violence doers are gonna hide in comer and shiver duh they'll also improve their technology And I guess it is true that CNN and channels like those have improved on how to make crime look dramatic my bad let's just ignore the word "growing" -my misTake but then again let's remodolize what my question why all the violence? I know about wars and stuff and I kinda understand why countries use violence as a political tool and I understand president assassinations blah but why should ordinary ppl join in like the school massacre somewhere the guy was an ordinary person and he killed some children and a teacher( I think one) that's the real thing .why should ppl wiu no relation with the gov or army do stuff like that ? Acts of frustration?

Because Human beings are animals. Being self aware and capable of reason doesn't change that, just makes us a different kind of animal.

Are we capable of peace? Yes, but its in our base instincts to be violent and to kill. Its what ensured our survival tens of thousands of years ago when we were living in caves and beating things to death with rocks.

I fully agree. I'm not condoning violence, but I'm not one to think that we just lived peacefully for oh-so-long and up and started shooting, stabbing, blowing things up, etc.

As humans, we have a long, long history of violence across the globe. However, we've come a long way as far as controlling--or rather, preventing--the amount of violence that goes on. Animals (mainly carnivores/omnivores) have to kill other animals to live. Nothing will ever change that and we are animals too. Right? That's like saying that it's unnatural to have sex before you're married. We're animals! Dogs and cats don't get married when they breed. They just do it! Lions don't go to jail for eating antelopes, they just kill and eat. All animals that have to kill to live are "violent" to a certain degree.

We're capable of living in a peaceful society but, the chances of humanity ever living in a utopia are slim to none.
