    Re: Hidden Pasts

things that are hidden are hidden for a reason
it isnt like there agenda is to hurt you or even
make you like stupid by not saying anything while
    you pour your heart out.

i know i have hiddena few things from freinds
because i just figured that telling them was just
to emberassing or to hard , and it might change
how they look at me so hiding things is more of
a way to save a freindship and for them to
see me how they did when we first met.

but that goes for anyone who hides things
it is unfair but it also saves freinds from going there
    seperate ways i think.
I'll be the one to protect you from your enemies and all your demons
I'll be the one to protect you from a will to survive and a voice of reason
I'll be the one to protect you from your enemies and your choices son
They're one in the same, I must isolate you...
Isolate and save you from yourself

    Re: Hidden Pasts

ok thanks for the information about a friend keeping secrets. However, I wasn't being totally honest. the friend is more than that but someone very close to me. I know they want to keep their past behind them but its when I get told their past but SOMEONE else. I was more annoyed that they told me another person's secrets, going behind their back and telling someone things that they may not want to be told.

I'll change the title of the thread to make it more understandable.

Well to me it would depend on what it is.
Like things that have happend to them that have scared them for life they might not wish to talk about. For example like seeing someone die or something like that.

But things that may ruin a friendship then I think you should have a right to at least ask. And there is no harm in asking. I mean if they are your friend then they will understand.
But that is what I think.

I don't really want to ask them because its being nosy and I understand that people always deserve their privacy. I don't want to ask questions that may upset them.

I would hate it if someone asked me questions about my past because they want to know EVERYTHING. For me, I had someone who tried to get me open up and by doing that they brought every painful situation from my past to my attention again and it tore me apart. So I do get the fact that they don't need to tell me everything if they don't want to. If I forced them then it would be breaking their trust.

If you were in the same situation but instead of a friend, the person is your partner. thats the part I want you to think about.

Well does what you learned about your partner change how you feel about them? If not then let the past stay just that in the past. If it does change how you feel for the worse then speak up, hearing your partners side of the story may shed new light on the subject, if your worried about snooping and what they may say, you're already having concerns. So whats another log on the fire?

Do you trust them? Do you still care for them as you did before? If you answer yes to thos questions then you have no reason to pry. Everybody has something that they want to forget or hid from. You are no different. So take how you would feel and go with that. If it comes up later and they talk about it then you can just listen to them. But if it never comes up and you don't want to ask than just let it go or your distroy what you have with them.

If I found out my 'friend' did that behind my back it would be end of story.
Telling someone another person's secrets is just low, especially when that person confided in you.

The only time that is considered acceptable is when that person has major (life ruining) problems you totally can't deal with yourself.

    Re: Hidden Pasts, Betraying Trust.

Somethings in life are sometimes better left unknown to people. Say, it was something that hurt you and that's probably why your friend never talked to you about it. There must be a reason. Sometimes it is better to just confront them about it, or just forget it because the past is the past.
