This is slightly expanding an interesting topic at another forum I go to and an already dead topic here.

In some places, you can only marry at the age of 18 or older while in others you can get married as young as 14. Sometimes the ages in these laws match the age of consent while others do not.

My questions are:

What do you believe is the ideal age to get married?

Should the age limit be the same for men and women?

Do you believe it is alright for a person to get married before the age of 18?

What are your views on child marriage?

Should the Age of Consent be any different than the Marriagable Age?

And if it's not too personal, how old were your own parents when (and if) they married?

I hope it's understood some of these include "why or why not?" to get some discussion going on ^^

*edit*Though it's the same as the Marriagable age for some countries, when I say 'Age of Consent' I mean the age when you're allowed to have sex with another person without it being considered statutory rape or such things like it.

*edit II* Child marriages can be arrange marriage, marriage under the age of 18 and/or marriage specifically at preteen age (12) and below (because some countries and religions now practice that sort of thing, as well as people back in the past).

the ideal age i think would be 25 you have a few years under your belt and you know hte difence be tween love and infatuation

i think it depend on who we are talking about but anyone undere 118 shouldnt be thinking of marage

i dont belive they should get married before 18 like i said just now

my mom was 16 my dad was 20 thye have been married 32 years now they are a
rare case of actuale love but doubt anyone else could do that today

What do you believe is the ideal age to get married? Humm, i would say when you are mature enough to take responsabilities, a marriage is a huge responsabilty that one must take seriuosly.

Should the age limit be the same for men and women? Like i said, if the girl is mature enough to take responsabilities then yeah, go ahead and get married.

Do you believe it is alright for a person to get married before the age of 18? In many ocassions not, why? well beacause you don't have a place to go, usually your parents kick you out from their house once you turn 18.

What are your views on child marriage? I think marriage is something religiously sacred.

I'd say 25. At least after you're done with your first university degree. (in Japan, some people believe that once you're over 25, it's near impossible to get married)

No. I don't think anyone's mature enough to hold their own before 21. Even if you're a high-school dropout and you're working, it's best to have accumulated enough money to at least find a decent apartment to live in and be sure you can support a family with what little you have.

Since I'm all for sex AFTER marriage, yes, I'd say that the Age of Consent should be the same as the marriageable age.

They were both 28. Just out of medical school.

At the very youngest, 21. That way, you're totally legal, you can do whatever you want: drive, smoke, buy porn, watch R rated shit, drink, vote, pay taxes. Unfortunately you can't put an age on maturity, so you'd just have to hope the couple knew what they were getting themselves into. Any age younger than that usually fails in divorce and all that junk, they weren't ready, you know the story. Child marriage should be classified as an oxymoron. How stupid is that? Get your hormones under control before you start trying to support a wife/husband, and family. And get out of your parent's house. And yes, the age limit for men and women should be equal. Otherwise the feminists will technically bitch that we are violating their rights.

25+ coz well, mainly the average teen/adult has to study a few more yrs after graduating frm high school and all, and being married during studies juz makes one's life more difficult- like children... plus, it gives time to mature.

No. Below 18 is just too young. I don't think an average teen can handle the pressure and stress.

i don't believe in any ideal age to get married, but just make it above 16. when you think it's time to get married, then get married. i won't say anything, because i doubt that would change anyone's mind if they're set on getting married.

it's the same in australia, and i thought it was for other countries as well. if not, then i'd consider it a case of sexism.

as long as they're over 16, i think it's ok. i just hope they won't regret it afterwards.

haha lol, age of consent - "The minimum age for marrying without parental consent or the minimum age for consensual sexual relations; intercourse at an earlier age can result in a charge of assault or statutory rape; the age differs in different states of the Union."

so basically, the age of consent is the marriagable age. i don't know if it's the same in every country, but that's how it is in australia.

my mum was about 25, and my dad was about 27.

I guess there is not Ideal Age for Marriage. All depends on your own opinions. Anyways, you are free to do whatever you want. You can marry yourself at 14 or as well as 60. Only thing is, sometimes, you need to live up with the consequences.

I would say the ideal age for marriage would be when the person is responsible and has a steady career/life.

Yes this should be true for both sexes.

Under 18. Maybe. In some wierd if the person is VERY mature and ready. But usually? No.

Child marriage? Umm... read above.

Age of consent different from the marriable age? No. Simple.

Hmm... my mother was 20. My father was 24, though they are now divorced.
