Just give them a warning. It's not like it's hard to get infractions here anyway ...
I agree with u. Yeah, that's not serious enough to get an infraction for.

Re: Lazy Typing

I had a friend who sometimes didn't use proper grammar and poor spelling. She got a lot of criticism from people at an old board I frequented on. I think maybe she didn't learn proper English or couldn't help it or whatever...I don't remember the reason all that clearly..

But I use proper grammar all the time. I'll use chat talk sometimes like "lol, btw, wtf, etc" when I feel like it. But I usually spell out words. Sometimes I won't be able to spell words and I never really bothered opening Word because everytime I opened Word until a week ago maybe even a couple days ago, Windows Installer would always pop up for some odd reason...

Hey, you took what I said wrong. I meant I check where they are from, so I know if it just a cultural thing. I figure if I know where they are from, maybe I can figure out what they are trying to say. After all I'm sure they may get confused over things I say. I PM with plenty of people from other countries, and we do just fine figuring things out.
What I was complaining about was when I see they are from her, and they just seem to prefer to write in text. I'm not texting, I would prefer they don't text me.
*******
We are talking about the people who throw all sorts of text typed words within their posts, either because they are lazy, or they think it's cool to text within their posts. We are not simply talking about people who simply have poor spelling and don't use spell-check.

Re: Lazy Typing

well, here's my opinion on that.. i live in a third world country.
Writing perfect spelling is not a problem but i noticed that when it comes to grammar and fluent speaking, u will find some problems. sometimes, we cannot express ourselves
so well in english but i know you guys can have the idea on what we are talking about.
on the other hand, i guess people here in our country shorcuts the terms when sending a message or emails or text messages. specially text messages, they have to shortcut it to maximize the space. in that case u can say many things in one message to send.
when it comes to formal letters and stuff, we are professional on that. correct spelling and strict on indentions and so on..

(sorry about my grammar heheh)

Re: Lazy Typing

Typing is very important in our lives, and for our futer, most of our based jobs are based around a compter of some sort. When i am typing fast I end up having a few typing errors, and just soem times I just plainly dont know how to spell it. (guilty as charged) a few maistakes that are made are fine with me, its just those that are way out of proportion that are, discourageble. Also, slang, i may use it in my social life, but hearing it and reading it is a totally different view, because the comprehensive skills or reading are slower than the ones that are being read.

Re: Lazy Typing

I learned to do "lazy typing" when I had to type with mobile for months... It's too hard to type full names and things, I'm trying to get rid of this habbit now. It annoys me so much...

I always froget to put the "g" in -ing and I sometimes type you as u... when I read it over in the forums I'm just like: "Oh My God! That is just terrible!"

Also my "^^" and "..." and "lol" start to annoy me. I put them everywhere and can't stop! I find "^^" so cute. And "..." is just stuck to me like forever!!!! It's bad...

I don't care if other people use "lazy typing" though, unless I start not to understand what they say. I agree though that it's better if you type corectly because then it's easier to type in serious documents and things like that later.

Re: Lazy Typing

I know that in most countries English is not the first language and that there will errors in post but its just that you tried and we are all here to learn now things and to get used to typing properly so one can improve.

However, when it comes to text typing. I just don't see the point of someone using it on forums. As said previously, People use the way one types to help catch a glimpse of what someone is like. So when it comes to using text typing it can portray a sense of taking the easy way out and not really thinking about how one is portraying oneself to others. In addition, to other members of the forum it doesn't help when they try to read the post and find out letters are missing and that numbers replace letters. It will be very confusing if someone who doesn't understand English that well also as it will only hinder their understand and confuse them greatly.

Re: Lazy Typing

I agree with the people here grammer is one of the most important things to know how to use on the internet as well as spelling, especially if there is a word that is so misspelled that you cant even realize what they are saying. I say if your spelling thing wrong constantly SLOW DOWN on your typing and re-read things BEFORE you post them.

Re: Lazy Typing

Well, I personally don't really see anything wrong with words like 'lol' and so on. When I use it, I use it to express my, uhh, expressions. Though I'd rather use smilies =P

The biggest problem I have with lazy typing is that if you use it too much, you get used to it. Yesterday I had to spell-check an English essay for my sister. I can't even remember how many mistakes there were because she was writing like she text messages. My brother's English teacher tore up one of the kids' English tests because he used lazy typing in-between everything. This is a kid who is in his final school year! o_0

And, of coarse, having to try and decipher what someone is trying to tell you. Usually I just get irritated with that.

Yeah you have a point soft blade however even when someone uses it too much if they know the difference and can seperate when they should use it and when you shouldnt then it wouldnt be problem, that sucks though when you get TOO used to it yeah I like using "lol" too and smiles such as and but there are times and places for everything you just need to know when and where.
