A Literal Killer Whale

Basically the article says that the Orcha responsible for his trainer's death (and this is not the first trainer he's killed) will continue to perform at Sea World becuz Sea World is a for-profit company, and Shamu makes a lot of profit.

Now, i find this extremely unfair. Any other animal who would have killed a trainer, be it Chimpanzee, Lion, Dog, would have been labeled a menace and be put down immediately. But becuz ol Tilikum (the killer whale) brings in millions of dollars every year, all that's being done is a bunch of big-whigs sitting around a table pretending they're going to do something about it.

Orchas are not even an endangered species, they're just hard to get in the wild becuz more and more countries are making it illegal to capture them (which is a very good thing, vital to the eco-system they are, they are). . .

in my public opinion, they should just put Tilikum in a tank somewhere or maybe release him back to the wild since he obviously has no problem hunting. as for personal feelings, they have put good dogs down for much, MUCH less than that. . .

They should incarcerate him. And, then all his homebys could make shirts that say "Free Willy".

Man.... That had to have been a crazy ending to the "Shamu" show.

Reading the article was so surreal. It's so blatantly all about the benjamins. Those orcas aren't even endangered!? They just don't wanna off him because he's their killer whale big daddy.

Somethings you just can't or shouldn't domesticate. A wild killer whale is one of those things. I say let it live.

Messing around with anything with "killer" in their name, you should be well aware of the dangers and prepared to be killed. In my opinion atleast, its not like a cute little puppy, it's a killer whale, its kinda what they do.

The reason they called them killer whales was when they were seen to be rather "violent". Which is almost the opposite... their actions of killing things is closer to being "playful".
...they also considered them "killer whales" with how they "played around with their food" when it came to seals and such (they would smack it around in mid-air). ...some say they're tenderizing the food before they eat it, but really - does it really take TWO to tenderize food ?

Look, when a Lion breaks out and kills someone, or even eats a trainer, they put the thing down. They don't send it out to the wild, they kill it. A shamu kills something, and everyone looks the other way.

All-in-all, the name "Killer Whale" came from a misconception that these were violent eat-and-kill everything creatures.

Hell no, they're intelligent creatures. Them killing things is just like a dolphin killing things: Either they're too playful and don't heavily consider how a living creatures can't survive underwater or being roughed around too much -- or they full-well know what they're doing and should be put down.

Killer whale is nothing more than a nickname we gave them, and we're too lazy to give them a new one. It has nothing to do with their tendencies of killing people, as that was started as a misconception just because they got too curious or they were mistaken for other creatures. Heck, they're not even whales!
...they're more like dolphins than anything else, and dolphins are JUST AS violent as they are.

So no, you shouldn't expect it just because of their name. It's a dumb name that we should change already.

This creature on the other hand, should be put down.
Whether in their nature or not, we should treat all creatures equally to an extent: If we put down dogs for biting children, why the hell shouldn't we put down an orca that kills its trainers???

...I'm not in agreement with how ignorant people treat and judge any form of animal (seeing them more as objects or as soulless beings), but this is an animal KILLING another animal (human)! Why the hell should it go unpunished?? We should just pretend like nothing happened?!! F*** NO! Someone throw a (plugged-in) toaster in its water.

Umm... I wouldn't expect it to change anytime soon after this, at least.

It's just an animal give it break, they live in their own world. Its the humans that caged them and make money off them. Don't blame the animal, blame the money grubbing humans.

Even if they have no intention of "punishing" the orcha, why are they still allowing him to be with other handlers? how many does he have to drag to the bottom of the tank for them to see THAT HE DOESN'T LIKE DOING FLIPS.


If being in a zoo is considered a prison for animals, then why not send him to a zoo?

of course they should let it live. It's a whale. Its not a murderer. It didn't grab her with the inent of "must be evil." It survives and lives on instinct. She would not want anyone to kill it.
