| The Bad Guy | Re: Manslaughter Charges for Acidental Friendly Fire Incident? Actually Hassun, Fayt is probably right. The guy is guilty of shooting his friend by negligence, fact. The relationships and circumstances are whats going to keep his punishment light.

They don't even say he actually pulled the trigger... Could have been an accidental discharge.

So little information was given out by the Canadian military, that the only thing the news media knows happened was that the gun went off resulting in a death. They haven't given out much information at all. But that they are preceeding with manslaughter charges leads me to believe that the gun was accidentally misfired due to negligence (safety not on, finger on trigger or something). Otherwise the incident wouldn't have been under wraps like it is. Incidents around military deaths are usually kept a bit quiet, but the military could easily just come out and say "this was an unavoidable freak accident, but no one is at fault," though they haven't. The alternative was that the event was avoidable, but due to negligence it resulted in a death. But no matter how it occured, the event is still highly unfortunate and I'm sorry that it hits so close to home.

| The Bad Guy | Re: Manslaughter Charges for Acidental Friendly Fire Incident? There shouldn't have been a round in the chamber. It's that simple. Safety off, finger on the trigger, none of that matters if there isn't a bullet in the chamber. He failed to clear his weapon, neglegence.

"Weapons status red," as we say in the Army. I mean, if you get hit with an IED, are you going to take that extra second to pull back your charging handle when you should be engaging targets? Given a fair trial, I think he'll be alright. There are plenty of things he has going for him, though muzzle accountability is always a big thing...
