Post New Youth Labour Law in France

The Pictures above show some the things that happened today in the Rioting in France.

I don't know how many of you where watching TV or heard about this awhile ago but I was watching Fox News awhile ago as more than one million people are estimated to have joined demonstrations across France many of which were violent against the government's controversial youth employment laws. Fighting broke out as protesters gathered in Paris, and rocks and stuff were hurled at police as they moved into the crowds to try to remove troublemakers. The police used Tear Gas and Water Cannons (as well as there shields and batons) to disperse the protesters, and by late evening just a small group remained but after much fighting and many arrests. A nationwide strike has also caused travel chaos throughout the country. Anyways the new law that started all the rioting is a new Law, which allows employers to end job contracts for under-26s at any time during a two-year trial period without having to offer an explanation or give prior warning. The government says it will encourage employers to hire young people, but students fear it will erode job stability in a country where more than 20% of 18-to-25-year-olds are unemployed. What do you think? Do you think this new Law is fair? Do you think the new Law will change anything for the good? Do you think that the new Law should be ended? Why?

Re: New Youth Labour Law in France

Ok let me say it so you can understand. There was a big riot because of a new Law that was past that says that owners of buissnesses can fire people under 26 without reason. So my questions where do you think this new Law is fair? Do you think the new Law will change anything for the good? Do you think that the new Law should be ended? Why?

Do you understand?

Re: New Youth Labour Law in France

I sorta remember that on the news, I don't think it is right, because people are trying to get jobs at a young age and they are trying to buy the more expensive items like a house and a more expensive cae first as they go into the workforce. Once they get a contract they think that then is a good time to work on long term stuff. Casting them into unsurity and unemployment with a morgage on their car or house with about maybe 15 to 20 years left. They should at least get a warning as to that they will be fired, like 2 or 3 months just so they can get another job. There is also another perspective in this that the goverment might have overlooked, the older generation who are still needing jobs to survive. Making more jobs for the newer generation comes from somewhere. Though I can't say that they really did overlook it because they might be looking for younger adults to get employment. They should also have reason to fire them, because they just cant say, "Because I say so." So ya, overall I think no, they sould remove that law, because if there really was that many who retaliated, there's deffinitly another 2/3 who decided not to do anything but still hated the law.

The current population of france is about 60 million people... so about 1.5% of the population rioting and probably more. wow...

I don't understand that new law, without prior warning? so your boss could be having a bad day and fire you because of that? Even just a one week notice would be nice. I suppose it is all in the contract.

Re: New Youth Labour Law in France

*ahem* ............... How awful!

... ^_^;; I'm sorry, that really seemed appropriate...

I don't believe it's right at all...
For no reason at all?! How could they?!
... afterall, it's not the youth's fault for being intelligent and hard-working just as the older people are! We're just the same! We work! We work! And that's all that matters! ..... *ahem* ... I don't have much energy, so... I can't really say what I want to say because I can't think clearly, but I'll come back to this topic again.

What this kids are doing is just expressing how they feel about the bill that the French congress wants to pass. This bill will make it easy for an employer to fire a teenager for no reason.

Re: New Youth Labour Law in France

I was fired from a job when I was in university for no reason. I went out and got a better job even though I believed the world owed me a living. I live in the U.S.A. and my employers even now can legally fire me for no reason. I have been working for them for over seven years. I am an independent contractor and my employers are under no obligation to keep me around for any reason. They keep me around because I help them make money and our customers like my work. Legislation has nothing to do with it.

Of course employers should be able to fire young people in France for no reason because many of those young people are anti-capitalist, socialist insurgents. As such, they all believe the world owes them a living just because they exist. I know this because I used to think just like them when I was their age.
