Many of the children are more likley to be sat down at the televison to watch tv so parents can either to keep an eye on them, or get time alone. Many also have tvs in their rooms so they can watch them anytime they want.
Yes shows like mtv is beyond a doubt is stupid, and rots your brain, and parents do not really monitor what their children watch unless it comes to porn. but it also inculdes hundreds of commericals that are fast food based everyday that influence alot of people to go out and by those bad foods.

theres alot of people and kids that are more likley to stay at home and watch tv rather than go outside, because its entertainment that they dont have to do much for and its right there. If they can get that bad food at home, and watching tv, not incouraged to go out and exercise, then yes overweight and obesity is more likley to happen. for the most part i think that if parents got more into getting their kids outside, away from the tv is where its important.

( not all parents are like this, but im going by whats in my area, where teenage mothers are rampat, and parents work alot, what i hear/see from them and my enviorment/friends)

and i agree that to many people rely on transportaion than going out and walking to the place they want to visit or get something. There is however the doubt for alot of areas though that are crime ridden, and to dangerous to go somewhere on foot. Which is increasing by the day from the economy drop. many stores are based father away from many homes in areas, and they cannot get there so they need to do that, but if the stores only a short distance away then theres no reason for it, but their going to use transportion, because they think its easier
Point taken. However, this country is destined for obesity. It's not just TV's fault for that though, it does play a role in the "fat drama". When I was growing up, TV played a big role in my childhood--only because I enjoy it to a certain degree. It never kept me locked in my room. My mom would kick me out the house if I was inside for too long. Eventually, I just learned to be more active. Have been to this day. Although, I find myself inside more often recently, due to work stress.

Anyway, I think that it's a matter of parenting; as far as obesity and TV is concerned with children. If you're an adult getting fat from doing nothing but gazing at the TV and eating Twinkies all day, then that's your fault.

I forgot to quote whoever said, "we wouldn't know about anime," but I want to say that just because anime wouldn't exsist; that doesn't mean that manga wouldn't be around to pick up the slack. The art would still be very much alive.

Back to MTV: I personally think that were it not for MTV brainwashing our youth, we wouldn't have high schoolers reading at a 3rd or 4th grade level. I used to hate going to school because I can't stand listening to someone MY age read like they're eight or nine years old. Blargh!

i agree on everything, its just become apart of the country and cant really be helped unless people decide to change which wont happen all the quickly. It was the same for me id get booted from the house. for alot of kids that doesnt happen to much and i think its a shame they miss out on all the other things they could be doing

true mtv is a big part on the learing scale, they know more on whats going on in celebrity lifes, fashions, and stupid reality shows. their more interested in that than learning how to make themselves better in reading and writting. They tend to sound more like little kids when your at a certain age and should be in elemtary school. Some of it though can be blamed on socitey, that weird "gangsta" language is whats circulating around their older siblings and friends. So they copy what they do, and carry that with them.

    True that.

Y'know what really bothers me about reality TV? There's no room for reality!! LOL. I'd be okay with the world having no TV, if it meant the end of the "Reality Show".

If there was no television then it means no radio. news would travel a lot longer than usual and think of the time we will be spending pacing the floors needlessly waiting for news. the world will definitely be something hard to imagine for me.

We've already established that we'd still have radio. Radio has been around longer than television has been and I find it hard to imagine life without it, considering that radio was and is still one of our main sources of information and entertainment.
