Ok, you do realize your saying booze, smokes, and pot are all bad. Your saying pot is the least bad out of the three. Why legalize one more bad drug?

Re: Obligatory Marijuana Debate. Legalize or No?

Why? To save the government money.

Do you have any idea how much money the government could save if it stopped arresting people for pot possession and distribution, Incarcerating those people, paying the salaries of the police officers during investigations of these people, and above all, the Literal gold mine that is TAXING the thing? ALL of which is paid by your tax dollars. Dollars that could be better spent on other things, like catching real criminals.

Fiscally, it makes sense to legalize it, and when roughly 50% of the population (Like in Canada's case) want it legal, well, "We the people have spoken" comes to mind.

I know someone who was caught dealing pot, had to pay hefty fines and all the court fees. I don't think it could be THAT draining on goverments money. They would still need just as many policeman and investigations for all the other drugs. Booze is legal, cops still arrest under age/drunk driving/abusive people for drinking!

I don't know how and where the government spends there money. Even if it is alittle bit of a money drain, I think its worth the extra money to try to keep people off one more drug.

yes, but if its legalized, those fees (Which the government first had to pay, not to mention the salaries of the Judge, Prosecutor, Court recorder, Bailiff, and others that were involved) would never have to be paid.

The government would make money if it legalizes it. At the moment, the government is spending more money then it gets back, which is not fiscally smart.

Are you talking about your government or the US government? And how in the world do you know how much the government spends on it, how much money they are losing and/or gaining?

doesn't matter, any government would make money if they legalize it. As the original poster stated, the US stands to make 240 billion dollars from just taxing the substance, not to mention money that is freed up from policing it.

It's already a proven fact that the war on drugs is a complete failure. Drug cartels of Mexico, Columbia, Cuba, Africa, Europe, and any other place in the world ship Millions of pounds of narcotics UNDETECTED into the united states.

You CANNOT say that it is good for this nation to keep funding money on a cause that they can never control. Unless this Substance become legal, then there would be no profiteering for Cartels.

Marijuana is more readily available in the United states than cigarettes. Anyone can get their hands on it. SO if it were legalized there would be procedures to buying it. Which mean it wouldn't be readily available to young people.
