Aku Wo Tatsu Tsurugi | pinoys...identity crisis for life. since philippines has been "invaded" by china, spain, america, japan and now korea; it's culture, language, race, and etc. has merged and forever be changed. hense, an identity crisis has emerged until now. it's almost impossible to say that a real filipino exists because mostly filipinos are half chinese, spanish, american, japanese, and now...korean. to a pinoy, you can say that i'm a filipino but what kind of a filipino? an identity crisis indeed.

I can see that you're worried about losing an ethnic and national identity, and I can't really berate you for that, but the Filipino culture, language, and people seem to be thriving. And interracial relationships aren't really all that bad; I'm 1/32 Chinese, while rest of my blood is also Pinoy, and I've still retained my cultural heritage. The merging of cultures isn't always a bad thing; if I recall correctly, the Byzantine Empire was a mixing pot of different cultural influences, though predominantly Greek.

O-o; Just because a place is racially/ethnically mixed doesn't mean it's people have no sense of identity or self-worth? I'm an Irish/Romanian/Roma(gypsy)/Hungarian-American with a 1st generation Chinese stepfather schooled,living and working in rural Japan. And I know ~exactly~ who I am. If things go with the current flow: my children will be bi-lingual Irish/Romanian/Roma/Hungarian/Japanese/Americans with a Chinese grandfather and a transexual godfather(mother?). Hopefully they'll be more interesting for it.

Say hi to your mom. | Re: pinoys...identity crisis for life. Don't fret about the mixed blood causing a national identity crisis. One of my best friends is mostly Filipino with a mix of African American and Chinese. She is supremely proud of being Pinay and her country and people. She is also proud of her mixed family and glad to be exposed to the other side of the cultural spectrum. I can't see any heritage faltering because their people are becoming more mixed and therefore more globally aware, sympathetic even. being half Korean myself I can sort of see what you think is a dilemma but to be honest its a strength and gives one a unique perpective and life experience.

![]() ![]() Credits: 61,124 | Re: pinoys...identity crisis for life. I sincerely wonder if you could actually handle a day in my shoes (working and living in a culture that isn't your own, functioning in a language that isn't your own, in a society where "other races" account for less than .001% of the entire population). Or perhaps spend a day as a little black girl growing up in an all-white neighborhood? Maybe as an untouchable in India... born into the lowest class possible thanks to your karma in a past life without hope of yourself or your children ever escaping the societal stigma of being virtual human trash. Or you could be the little bi-racial boy in the fourth grade at one of my schools who no one will play with, be partners with and is told to "go home to America" at recess. He's a full Japanese citizen who speaks only Japanese. These are all very real identity crisises... ones that people have no choice but to overcome around the world every day. I don't think any of them are any less for that struggle because they don't share your uber-amazing nationality. But um... yeah... you're pinoy so you're auto-awesome! is that what you're going for with this thread? Racial pride blurs the lines into racism when it becomes exclusionary. You're walking a rather offensive line here ^^;

Mixing is what happens when people are allowed to travel freely. (edit)...it happens. its the future of the world. I myself am Chinese Dutch Indonesian, and that combination was nothing but trouble back in Indonesia...my family basicly had to leave (For our own safty) due to the bigoted "pure blooded" Indo's...they moved mostly to the US and Europe. But that never changed the fact that my mother grew up Indonesian...even if everyone else labeled her a chinese dutch indo...not just an indo...you are treading a thin line there...
