No not really. The only reason we are in another recession is because that's how the business cycle works. Besides politicians seem comfortable with lying about stuff now.
Well the situation is this. The economy is in bad shape as a result of what started out as a sub prime realestate problem. Republicans and Democrats have continued to institute policies and carry on legacies of fiscal irresponsibilty. The current president ran on a platform of change but has done nothing except carry on where his predeccessors left off. Certainly he has done nothing different as far as the situation with the military is going (save for promoting MacCrystal). So is there any difference between Republicans and Democrats.

Though, it would be nice if the politicians were looking out for the people, instead of looking out for everyone else(Foreign powers,Corporations, Financial institutions, etc.). Of course, that ain't happenin any time soon.
I think that the main problem is the fact that there are career politicians: people who're really aren't good for anything but acting they're in charge. They're animate puppets at best.

When will people understand that its not the Politicians that drive the Economy, its the stock traders, Company CEOs and Board members, and our Wallets that do it.
Yes, Politicians can effect some change but when it comes down too it, its up to the everyday Joe Schmo to keep spending (spending is good for the economy, its what got us out of the last major depression). If the economy isn't getting better, its not the Presidents fault, he's done what he could (What got us out of the Great Depression was the money the US spent on World War II).
And another thing, there's a difference between getting yourself elected for the Job, and actually doing the job. Its quite possible to say that you're going to do something, and when it comes time to do it, you realize that by doing that thing, it blows up in your face, which leaves you with one inescapable conclusion: You do the thing that works.
Now, just to Bring this conversation into a world wide perspective, lets do away with "Democrats" and "Republicans" and replace them with "Liberals" (IE Democrats) and "Conservatives" (IE Republicans), just to avoid confusion.
There are fundamental differences between the two political spectrum. In a nut shell, one is a force for change and moving forward, the other is a force for normality and keeping things the same.

The difference is well...really... nothing, politicians are all the same. Liars, cheats and power hungry. None of them care about anything more than filling their wallets and having the people think, THINK, they are doing a good job.
Fact is the people control everything and they just don't realize it. The media praised Clinton for the strong economy when he had nothing to do with it, criticized Bush when it went south, again nothing to do with it, and say it is not Obama's fault now that he is proving the president has nothing to do with it with his inability to drive that change he so proudly keeps talking about.
The economy is easy, companies employ people and pay them money. People take the money and buy stuff from the companies. As long as people are buying, companies are strong and employing, when they stop buying, companies struggle and lay people off which just reduces the number of people with money to buy their stuff. So if you want a strong economy, convince companies to employ people and since people will always want and need stuff they will eventually buy the companies stuff. Nice little circle of life.
Fact is liberals love to boast they are for change and moving forward, even if that happens to be off a cliff or in the wrong direction. And conservatives tend to want to stay put, I mean if it is broken who cares right?
Neither side has the answers because neither side is willing to actually face the truth that they would have to do what is in the ACTUAL best interests of the country instead of the interests of those stuffing their pockets with lobbyist $$$.
I hate politics but I hate that so many are stupid enough to buy into either side as more than just a bunch of liars.
The reason there are so many cash problems now is that people will buy now and pay later. Eventually they forgot they bought it and they will not be able to pay for it.
The true force behind the economy is Debt, and not the actual buying of things. Only the top 10% of the worlds population can afford to buy expensive things outright, everyone else has to borrow money to pay for large ticket items (Post Secondary Education, Cars, Homes).
The genesis of the economic woes we find ourselves in is that Banks lent out too much money, to the point where they had to borrow money themselves, and didn't have enough to cover their own expenses, let alone giving the money to the people who borrowed it.
Everything has to be balanced with moderation. Too much of one thing is bad, and so is too little. Things have to be in a happy middle.
Well that's what I meant. Yes buying stimulates.
So why the hell is no one buying!?!????!?!?!? Stop getting scared and spend you idiots!!!! God, it's like the swine flu: It's the same thing as a normal flu, get over it!
