Understood. It's more of a child 5 and up thing, I believe. Obviously hitting a smaller child would teach them nothing, but how to cry.

I think it's only okay to smack a child when they are 4 or older. That way they would know that it's wrong to do that and know better. If been smacked since 1 or 2 years old, they would eventually start bullying people and hitting them.

First off, this is an awesome title!

Second, i believe you do. simply becuz [usually, NOT ALL THE TIME] people who have not been disciplined as a child are usuallly selfish, snobish, and really stupidly arrogant...

Of course i don't think that you should take 'em out to the tool shed with a switch [old school term for a part of a tree branch]... but if it's a smack to the butt and some such, i think that's okay...

but... across the face... i don't know... that's a little touchy... ^_^! that's my 2 shoes!

i was raised to belive if there old enough t understand there old enouhg to get a spanking or somthing i have see a few kids 34 or that knew what wrong or right there smart fr there age . but ok 4 or is a good age but i think it should be as soon as they know its wrong and the do it for attention and nothing else.
shild abuse is very wrong but it want really be stoped i mean the social serive people put kids in known abusive homes and dont care . banning it would just prove that the government dosnt care for the kids

parents smack their child to discipline.it is a form of corporeal punishment dat many have abolished but it has both its advantages and disadvantages.i don't think its rite though coz the child sufers mentally and physically.

ok. the Bible says its ok to spank a child. but going as far as hitting them antwhere but on there butt like in the face is not good. i dont think they should ban it but they should have something where people cant hit them any where but on there butt. and spanking them really hard like hard enough to leave welts and brusses is bad to.

Well, if it's beating the child to death then that certainly is a no-no. There should be boundaries on the extent of disciplining a child. A few spanking (and I mean that without the use of external devices) is I think okay just as long as they are a bit older (5 and up?) and able to understand why such punishment is being done. I think the best way is to communicate with the child first. Too much spanking will only set a bad example and mislead a child to become rebellious and a bully just to get his way.

First of all, they can ban all they want but people are still going to do it. Nine times out of ten no one would even know if you smacked your kid. Second, no matter if you think it's right or not, you're eventually going to hit or smack your child. Children just find that thing that irritates you and they pick and prod at it until they drive you over the edge, so they are asking for it. I don't think they should have banned it because it won't do any good. They wasted their time. Beating is obviously wrong, but smacking is a thing that happens in a split second to make the kid think twice next time. Sometimes whacking on the butt don't get the point across because it doesn't hurt. Smacking is the only answer for some kids. I know I sound harsh, but those are my thoughts.

from self experience... hiting, smacking a kid is no good. Parents just give orders to kids, instead of trying to have a rational discussion, it's a fact that many children won't listen, but at least trying would be nice. And maybe the kid will dare parents when they get used to being smacked... my mom has smacked me more than once & i get freackin tired of it, so i simply don't care anymore, i dare her, she tells me: do this or i will hit you! so i just answer with a: go ahead! it's not like it's something new...
My point is, there are limits... if kids don't listen after u try to get some rationality into them, then i guess that all u can do is hit them, yet... you are just making the kid being afraid of you, or you make him hate you, or in worse of cases... he dares you to hit him.
