also from experiance...it depends on the child, I was hit as a kid for no good reasons, so growning up I always thought, "If I get hit for no reason, what will he do if I do something wrong." Therefore I grew into a moral and kind person, but it has done some damage with being able to control my anger at my dad. I'm bigger and way stronger than him, so if I wanted to I could seriously hurt him.
Now with bad kids....there are a lot of them, from what I've seen bad people out number the good, I think bad kids, if they don't start being good after a stern talking to, need to have the sence knocked into them. What else can you do if words no longer work?
Note: When a kid cries because you smack him, don't hold back~ Slap him again~! Don't get pussified and start praising him! Don'y let him get the idea that by crying, he/she gets what he/she wants~! They'll grow up to be cry babies.

Slap him/her when she cries again. Let him/her realize that the amount of crying is proportional to the amounts of slapping~! XD wakakaka~

I think doing somthing like smacking is kinda too hard for children, otherwise slapping them is more considerable. Sometimes threaten the child with physical way will give more effect for the child, but as for me I'll use verbal first. If it useless, i think it is wise enough to use hand. As long as we're doing it when the child doing something dangerous, or anything else and for the goodness of the child.

Some others say ,it is for the discipline of the child but its not right ..it is a violation to the Bill if rights in our country, Its already called a child abuse in our country but yet,only few are punished by doing that violent action...and I hate it...

About 80 % of the answers come from kids themselfs what is this a discussion u know for over 2500 years parents have been given some kind of punishment for the children that misbehave or don't listen to the parents.
It works differently for each one, me when i was about 13 smacking did not help anymore because i just brushed it off and did my own thing.Today i am ok not because i did my own thing because most of the things my parents told me stuck with me for the greater good.
So yeah life is not so easy when u have your own and they misbehave like that and u have to sort out the problems how,when,where,what to do ?? all those questions are coming wait for it ....

I only think that it is right to spank a child as a last resort punishment, because I think that hitting a child could cause the child problems in the future. Sometimes it's the only way to teach them a lesson or to get them to listen to you.
i really dont know why you all are crying over hitting kids. if its not abuse and it's only punishment, then so be it. too many bad kids and all the parents do is
