Now is this any worse then the 'Death Panels' the private insurance companies already have in place... You can scroll through the Health care sites and read countless stories of insurance companies refusing coverage of 'pre-existing' conditions...
The Sarkysian family made repeated appeals at news conferences for Cigna to approve a liver transplant for the 17-year-old, who had leukemia. Cigna initially declined to cover the operation, then reversed its decision.

Sarkysian died hours after the company's reversal.

And speaking of 'Death Panels', MSNBC has posted an article on where the provisions originally came from...
The hospital got its wish this spring when House Democrats inserted that provision into their health-care reform bill -- only to see former Alaska governor Sarah Palin seize on it as she warned about "death panels" that would deny care to the elderly and the disabled. Despite widespread debunking, those warnings have led lawmakers to say they will drop the provision.

"It's really distressing," hospital official Bud Hammes said. "These things need to be addressed."

You gotta read between the lines when it comes to your job and the insurance you get through your job. Most people are covered by an insurance plan through their job. However, those employers usually don't cover the whole plan out of their own pockets. Most pay stubs will even say that your coverage was paid through your paycheck (listed with other things like fed/state tax, FICA, Social Security; etc). So, if you're one of the lucky few who has insurance fully paid by your job, more power to ya! But, more than likely, you're paying for coverage as well.

And that's if your lucky enough to work at a company that does offer health insurance coverage. As a youth I've worked many a minimum wage positions that had no health insurance coverage at all. And this is practice that is common in some surprisingly large corporations... (Walmart was guilty of this until only a few years ago. They only changed after the State of California threatened to take them to court to charge them for the bill the Medi-Cal incurred because of this practice... Now their a supporter of mandated company health insurance coverage to try to level the playing field with their competitors...)

Likewise. I worked at jobs that offered no insurance til I was about 23 or 24 and even then, the coverage wasn't all that great. It was a waste of money comin' out of my check. I'd rather make $15 p/hour with no insurance at a temp agency than $8.50 while paying half of my coverage. That's not good income.
