But people have free time... So they should be able to do what they want...Within reason.

It doesn't matter because if they don't block the sites, people will surf during class. Because of that, they can't allow it even on free time.

Doesn't matter to me anymore since I graduated already. The school does it only so students can concentrate on their work during class where they're at the computers doing work or research. Even so they really need to tweak their filters.

My high school blocked game sites, hotmail and other miscellaneous sites like newsground. Sometimes the filter blocks essential websites that I needed for research which annoys the hell outta me. Thats why I hate doing research via internet at my school.

Might as well block search engines, students can look up unappropriate sites. I remember clicking on a porn site by accident from google while I was doing research in my communication tech. class. Ahahah, I got busted by my friend and he yelled "WHAT WERE YOU DOING?! I SAW THAT!"

    Bastard.

And besides, their grades will reflect on it anyway.

    Re: Schools Blocking Websites?

    I graduated in 2002. I don't have a teacher.

Schools need to be strict. Kids get away with everything these days. When I was in school, I can certainly tell you I got away with tons of stuff. Teachers actually care. They want the students to learn and allowing them access to the internet to go on MSN or whatever they want to do instead of paying attention makes them pretty bad teachers. Kids need a push because teachers know how important education is for a kids' future. Back then I didn't care either but you don't want to graduate from school and start loooking into college or university only to realize your slacking at school has prevented you from doing what you want to do in life. You'll end up kicking yourself for it and wishing you paid attention.

Oh me, I only go on the internet at school in my free time. I do pay attention when it is class time. And seeing as I am going to be in the 12th grade this year, I have no time for crap like slacking off.

It certainly doesn't go for every single person, there are plenty out there that wouldn't take advantage of the internet, but a few bad apples ruin the fun for everyone. It sucks but life isn't fair.
