This topic has risen many times around the past month or so for me, so I thought I would mention it here..

Should smacking children be banned?

Already, causing bruises, reddening of the skin and mental harm will become a criminal offence in England and Wales. But an outright ban has not occured for a few resons, one of them being that it would 'allow authorities to disrupt the lives of normal families.'

How do you feel about it?

Some people feel it is humiliating for both the parents and the children, especially in public places. Is it the only way to disipline a child or should adults stop battling for power and learn new techniques?

Granted, not all parents can get Supernanny Jo Frost to help with disobediant kids, but surely there are more produtive ways that giving children a slap to teach them right from wrong?

HELL TO THE FREAK YEA. these kids need an old school a** woopen. not some smack. where i live it hoocjie mommas and kida running around being the parent and the parents end up on maury saying"i cant control my child !!" oh shut up. get a belt and wet them up and that will teach them. and yes i am gonna have kids and im letting you know n ow, if they act bad ima make them take a shower then woop them. tough love

well as i am a british person and perhaps old fashioned. I would prefer the old disciplines....excluding the cane that must have really really really really hurt!! but otherwise, you look at childrens manners these days here in the Uk and there isn't any discipline being shown because they have created rules that allow child to run riot.

As for smacking. it is a firm way to tell children the difference form right and wrong or there is the old, take away their pocessions, which i prefer. But parents also are too week to do that, which super nanny has shown because they say they don't want to hurt their kids so instead they spoil then which tells them they can away with everything. The what was a think boundary has been shrunk to a very very thin line.

I say some kids deserve it but only to a certain extent. You shouldn't hospitalize your child. A smack here and there to keep them in check is good though. I got beat all time and I turned out fine. I still got belt markings too.

ya i guess so but more it like depends what they do trust me what hurts more get hit with a belt or shot with a airsoft pistol and yeow those things hurt really bad near you. one time i cryed because the pain hurt so much big time ow

Kids should deffinetely be smacked around a little when they missbehave, if parents weren't allowed to physically discipline their kids then it would make it just about impossible to control them except for the few logical and intelligent ones (which America is in short supply of these days). I remember when I was little and was acting like a s**t, my dad would just smack me around and I'd be as good as rain again, so it works. But parents shouldn't take it overboard or else their kids will just end up hating them. It's better for parents to tell their children how to behave and enforce it with logic instead of violence, but sometimes violence is needed to set em' straight.

This is an issue without an end, should parents be allowed to smack thier kids, hell yeah! they are the ones raising them. Therfore, they have the right ot smack them anytime they want.
