i'd have to say they shouldn't be banned. this has been said before, but put simply, it's the parent's responsibility to take discretion on what games to buy for their kids. ESRB rates the games the way they do for a reason ya know?

Re: Should Violent Video Games be banned?

Violent video games should not be banned. For one it's the reason why the games are rated, so as to make an effort at deminishing the number of under age kids who play violent video games. But there is the problem of parents buying the games anyway just because they're kid begs them for it, and at a young age a person can be very heavily influenced by things they see and hear in the development of their thinking and behavioral patterns. Though despite violent video games being seen as a menace to society, for more mature people, violent video games help them to deal with the stress's of day to day life. So instead of taking their stress and anger out on someone they sit down and play some Halo, Ghost Recon etc. and take their anger out on fictional characters. The only game I think should be banned is Grand Theft Auto, that game gives allot of people ideas...

Even better, let's require a psychological exam for them to buy the game. Seriously. After all, it's not enough to just say only adults can buy the game. Make sure the adult is stable enough to play it. I don't drive anymore because I'm addicted to driving in GTA games. And I know I might try to drive like that in life.

if you ban violent video games, you might as well ban all video games, because besides tetris and pacman, violence dominates the gaming world....

You can't just ban gaming, you gotta get it through parents' heads that like movies and TV shows, video games are can be violent, offensive, and not fit for children. There's not much more for me to say...

First of all I don't think that video games are that bad. It's all about attitude you
show towards them. But yes, too young children playing GTA and other similar
games ain't good. Some of them just can't tell what is real and what's not.

For total ban...NO. Violent games should just be putten to diferent section
and they should allways ask ID before giving those to customers.

No - if parents cannot monitor their childrens behaviour, then it's their own fault for a child buying a violent game, and also a shop sellers, if they make a cock up. All games are labelled correctly, on the back , content rating wise - people need to learn how to look for things like that first, instead of blaming other people.

People still fail to understand that it's not the games that mess up children, they're f*cked up to begin with

Re: Should Violent Video Games be banned?

I don't know about all that. I do know games shouldn't get banned. Kids in Japan have games with porn in it. It's also like letting a kid surf on the internet with full access. Somethings can't be prevented. Yeah, parents should watch what their kids play. Hell, when I was little, my mom wouldn't let me watch the Simpsons or play Mortal Kombat.... I had to break her in slowly. Now, my little brothers get to play Resident Evil and all that stuff with the exception of GTA. I guess that's America for ya.
