First off, I do have to say that the largest supplier of oil to the US is Canada, making the need to "Seize the Iraqi oil fields" a moot point. If they want more oil from us Canucks, try relaxing the Passport requirements, and taking a Canadian citizen off your terrorist watch list who has been proven innocent for almost a year now.

Second, China, while having the ability and man power to challenge the US in open conflict, lack the logistics to do so. Man power is useless if you can't get your troops on the ground.

You dont need high technology and information to kill some one with a bullet. Which is why they will fight using guerrilla tatics.

Also, china declared a no first use policy, meaning they wont use nuclear weapons unless someone uses nuclear weapons on them.

The PLA is rapidly upgrading to new technology. If they can go from midevil times to future times in 20 years, they can definetly do the same with the military.

You dont want to admit it, but china has a lot of potential to become a super power and a fierce competitor with the US.

You're being optimistic. China is missing some key things to becoming the power that you describe. Among those is a technology base with a well educated general populace.

Buuuut since someone asked for a breakdown of military capability I found some charts someone has made on military ability of pretty much every country in the world.

Armed Forces of the World
According to their charts the US ranks 93% for total quality and China ranks 32%.

Australia has a 54%
The UK has a 77%
Germany has a 64%
Israel has a 61%
Japan has a 73%

The rest are under 50% and most of those are under 20%
So if you were going to rank militaries it would go:
1. USA
2. UK
3. Japan
4. Germany
5. Israel
6. Australia
7. Canada / France (49%)
8. Netherlands (48%)
9. Saudi Arabia (45%)
10. Italy / Finland (43%)

China does not even make the top 10.

Not at all. They are called the Self-Defense Forces (SDF) and are prohibited from being deployed in war actions outside of Japan. Among other things they have over 150-thousand ground troops and a total paid military personal of 240-thousand.

This is what I said:

I have no problem admitting that China has the capability to become a super power again. And they are a fierce competitor with the U.S. in many things. But military might is not one of those factors right now. Arrianna has already shown you percentage breakdowns of their capabilities compared to other countries.

20 years is a long time. It's possible that in 20 years both the U.S. and China will be eclipsed by some other country in terms of military power. But that isn't what your theory proposed, now is it. If this is some grand plan by GW Bush, shouldn't it take place SOMEWHERE in his presidency? If that's the case, then China needs to be at a place where it could confidently declare war against us in the next 2 years. I don't see that happening.

Certainly, you can start here: Military Problems
They are a big fish in a small pond. The only thing they do have is the largest military in the world. Large is not better though. It is technology and discipline that wins wars, not numbers.

1.China- 2,100,000 personal / quality rating of 32%
2.USA- 1,400,000 personal / quality rating of 93%
3.India- 1,250,000 personal / quality rating of 35%
(Everyone else is at 1 mill or less)

Think about what that means.

I wouldn't laugh if I was you. The top 5 inventions that have changed the world are the gun, computer, jet, telephone, and television (and possibly the a-bomb). Guess where most of those were invented.

Is the Chinese military poorly disciplined? By comparison with European militaries, yes. Are they less efficient, very much so. Check the quality rating again which is based on "imperfect leadership, component of force quality, support, training" etc.

Most of the inventions from america were only because of immigrants from other countrys.

When i say americans arent the smartest in the world, i mean how we lack behind every other country in grades and engineering. China and japan rank higher then us.
