Hehe...I agree with kastelic4444-sami. For me, news is boring as hell, even though, it is good to know what going on around your surroundings as Kedar said.

I know. Mostly, they spit out the bad stuff with a few sprinkles of good stuff is mentioned from time to time. But, I know some of my Jap friends find news quite entertaining. I have seen them have a lot of laughs!

I'm not sure if asking why do most teenagers "nowadays" prefer to watch anime... I've never really been aware of any generation of teenagers being hooked on watching news.

Being a teenager and stuck in school is already a closed off ecosystem, full of its own problems, that teenagers just don't have the time, let alone the want to worry about the outside world. Having to go to school attempting to get good grades, while trying to fit in with the rest of the social peers is had enough, that when they get home they don't feel like putting on the news to depress them even more. So instead they'll turn to anime and the such, which provides an entertaining outlet for them. Plus you have to admit that there is a lack of social awareness when growing up, which is restricted to the immediate world, which is generally grown out of once you're in the 20's and up.

So in short, anime provides an outlet for teenagers because it doesn't suck as much as trying to find ones place in the world and the highschool social hierarchy, whereas news simply provides an even bleaker vision of the world to come.

Plus really good anime is way better than the news. Please see:

thats the point.. teenagers dont give damn to the news because they dont to be depressed anymore... in school they are so haggard in doing many things.. and when u are at home, can u let that f***ing news will bother you,, ofcourse not..

It's quite simple actually, because teenagers don't typically watch the news. If you look at teens who do not watch anime, I can assure you the amount of news they watch won't be much different than that of an otaku.
