Thread: Why is society trying to force everyone to join a religion ?

Well .. you can live w/out religion but I guess religion make you belong, bond or at least believe in something & it could give your life a sense or something to hold into, & I agree with Hassun that every single great civilization had a strong religious base

i dont think its religion nessacarily but more the people of their religions. Its something that makes people bond and come together with something to believe in, so in turn they want other to join and bond, believe what they do. For many though its also in the family. so for them its the only way to go, and if someone else doesnt agree with them, then they feel that person is wrong in what they believe in whatever the reason. This has been going on since religion has been around, so when one became more popular others of the old ways were known as heathens because they were different. Many though are focused on one thing but they cant get along because of the different views on what that religion sees what happened and how.

For me i choose mine because it was something that i was introduced to a long time ago, and it fit me. Ive been in three different religions since i was little and the didnt give me answers to what i was seeking. So im happy in what im doing, but im judged harshly on what i do, and am critized all the time for it, and ive coped with it. I do not like people who tend to look down on me for it and try to push their religion on me.

everyone is different from everyone else, so they fit into different religions, or beliefs than others. They should be able to choose the way they do things without being looked down on, or critized for it. If it fits for them then that should be all there is to it.

political leaders only do this because they feel they can control people easier if they have a hierarchy being to believe in such as embracing what you may believe its not all a scam some use it to escape the fear of everyday

the hell wiht religion it doesnt make any different with or with out it life never really changes what changes nothing religion is pointless to me.

Ok, thats a little uncalled for. I don't particularly agree with religion, but I'm not gonna bash it due to the fact that not all people feel that way. Religion is an opinion, and there are always gonna be people with opposing opinions untill people no longer walk this earth. I do think people who follow doctrine rigorously do look down on people who are'nt there religion. I'm a pagan, and my Fiance is a christian. Her grandparents tried to break up our engagement due to my religion.

Religion is man's practice of understanding his meaning and purpose. We gather comfort in knowing we are here to fulfill God's plan for humanity, which is our purpose. We insure the meaning of our lifetime by living under God's rules and achieving his acceptance into heaven. Religion is like a cosmic bucket of Ben & Jerry's.

Also, I don't think society is harassing anyone into a choice. Inherent rights prevent this, I would imagine. Going to church/whatever is a personal decision. Is it so bad to have a religion that this discussion is necessary..

However, I can only say these things about Canada and I am well aware of the dominance of religion in other countries. They're slow to catch up.

I wonder what part science plays in this debate.

I really don't agree with religon. You can believe what you want but I don't exactly believe that their is a superior being that watches over us. if there was there would not be all of this sufering in the world, and I don't think 'HE' would allow people to murder eachother over their worships..
