Well, I'm not sure if this is much of a "heated" discussion but whatever.

TOPIC:

Do you think "sex" will still help companies sell their products in next 5 years? 10 years? or more?

Things to consider:

- In most families, the mother is usually the financial manager of the family's funds.
- Lowe's, a home improvement hardware store, has changed its layouts and feel to cater to females. It ditched the warehouse/construction look for a more vibrant colors and more sales reps on hand to help.
- While there is still a gap between the pay of females and males, that gap is slowly closing.
- Less males are going for a college education. In addition, more females tend to stay in college and graduate on time compared to their male counterparts.
- We are heading toward a economy where the power of purchase will be female consumers, and it is only natural for companies to serve their consumer base.

its just a fact with marketing. if the item is made for men, or the people the item is being sold to is mostly men, then who wouldn;t use a beautiful woman.

and if women are going to be the target audience in the near future, then use a muscular good looking man or something. it will still work. even though women still have more common sense than guys, they are still human and have a sex drive.

sex just plays on some of our baser instincts and, as i said in the SC sexist thread, sex=pleasure pleasure=good good=buybuybuybuy

Of course. Hands down to sex will sell in the future. It's a demand. Pleasure is something humans cannot get enough of. We wish to escape from the havoc in our daily lives with some amount of ecstasy that doesn't have to be sex, but we choose it second to drugs most times. Sex is a constant demand from everyone because it gives intense amounts of pleasure. The brain is relaxed once an orgasm hits. So yes, sex will ALWAYS be in demand. Unless we all turn celebant or turn to nuns.

Here are my $0.02;

It would pretty interesting to see a pretty hot girl advertising a new computer and talking about its capabilities and functions. Every computer geek's dream come true right there. However, i think its wrong to use women as tools to advertise and sell more. Its morally degrading. Women ain't objects they are awesome human beings and should be respected as such. ^^

Why of course I think sex will sell. It always does. Ya know, woman can JUST be as lustful as men, if not more. Not ALL woman are the "I'm not looking for sex" just like not all guys are "YEAH! SEX!!!!!!".

It's simple, we use what people find attractive, people will be lured and buy. Perhaps when selling to woman a very attractive man will be used. Just because a mother is the financial leader doesn't mean a VERY useful technique won't work. I know a few mothers who have a "secret porn stash".

"Sex" has been around for how long? Sexual immorality has always been around, no matter what century.

As for as marketing... Marketers will use whatever propaganda they can to sell their products. Sex will always be used, in my opinion.

I agree with most of the posters here. Sex will keep selling well. Probably forever. The arguments you bring up won't impact this at all Legend. Maybe we'll see more attractive males in advertisements in the future if the product is aimed at women (Think the famous coca-cola light commercials.) but sex will continue to sell.

Bigger negative impacts on the way sex sells would be a strict religious state or maybe some kind of invention which can fulfill all our sexual needs instantly but both of those don't sound likely in the Western world of today.
