![]() ![]() Credits: 2,997 | Yaoi in Japan, not America Why is it that girls are sooo into Japanese boys pairing up? You see tons of boyxboy fics and icons and stuff out there on the net, whether it be anime boys or real Japanese idols. In fact, the Japanese entertainment companies promote slash (boy pairing) in order to sell, because fangirls goes crazy over it (I'm no exception, of course XDD) Alright, here's my real question though. Why is the the pairing up of two Japanese pretty boys appealing, but not two americans/canadians/australians/caucasians? I am in no way trying to be racist. If you ask any fan of Japanese/Korean/Chinese Idols/music, they will squeal at the sight of their idols getting cute with each other, but be completely grossed out if two american stars did the same thing.

![]() ![]() Credits: 8,085 | Re: Yaoi in Japan, not America Some Japanese men have the tendency to look more feminine and more "pretty" than Americans and other cultures. Fangirl behavior for the most part is almost pathetic, but whatever gets them to sleep at night. Making crack fanpairings that don't make any sense at all. Anime-wise, just because two characters show some feelings toward each other in a rivalry or brotherly manner, that apparently means that they're gay for each other. NarutoxSasuke. SoraxRiku. GokuxVegeta. AlucardxAnderson? Heh.. Etc. Etc. Etc.... It's pathetic and just one of those things that almost ruin a fandom. Squealing fangirls that either claim a character or just keeps on preaching that so-and-so and so-and-so are sooo cute together. LOL. Oh well! Most of my friends are like that. Kingdom Hearts, J-Rock, anime. It's all good. |

God's Little Girl | Re: Yaoi in Japan, not America Maybe it's because Asian guys are "prettier". They have more feminine features, IMO. It may also have something to do with the fact that yaoi-sm is pretty big in Japan, and since we're all aware of the fact that there are tons of yaoi/shounen-ai titles around (and heck, we love them, even) we tend to be more receptive towards Japanese bishies instead of Caucasian ones.Does this make sense? That's what I *think*, but you don't have to see it in this light. ^^

Diamond in the Rough | Re: Yaoi in Japan, not America I cant speak for other countries but in America, theres too much pressure on guys to be "manly" and showing feelings for another guy isnt considered "manly" to some people. Japanese men tend to be, well, prettier and I think there is less of a "manliness" issue involved....as for why fangirls love it so much, im not sure. I've never been a big fan of the yaoi pairing thing but I dont hate it either.

Upcoming Legend | Re: Yaoi in Japan, not America Slowly yaoi is gaining popularity in America, there are yaoi manga distributors now. Just to prove that Asian guys looks more feminine, though it doesn't apply to every Asian. http://www.blahsoft.com/en/m4-masa/masa07.jpg http://www.blahsoft.com/en/m4-masa/masa12.jpg I puked when I found out he was a guy. |
