The tips of my fingers so close to my palms.
My hands, clenched in fists so tightly.
My lashes so close to the top of my cheeks
Tears separate them nightly.

What if I come that close to losing
The reason why I rise?
The reason I have fists to fight
Or vision in my eyes.

The smell of my devotion
Is so close to baby’s breath.
The feel of life, so close to his skin
In him exists no death.

Love has a taste so close to his kiss
Never too much to consume.
So close to hearing angels sing
When he came out of my womb.

I thank the Lord every day,
That we’re so close to one another.
I always feel so close to God,
When my son cries for his mother.

To hear my child cry out for me,
Its the most heavenly of sounds.
I thought I was so close to heaven...
...Then he pushed me beyond the bounds .
