that movie was sooooo effing racist. They showed persians as beasts. The persians were actually a very great and peaceful empire. The movie showed the east as dark and evil.
^_^ actually, the movie wasn't based in racism, it was based of a comic book... and do you know what comic books do? they make everything in tofantastical beasts and galiant everything. The comic creator and the director knew the Persians weren't beasts, and certainly knew King Xerces was not how they portrayed. But, it makes a better story, yes?
The meaning of characterizing them, and everyone else in the movie, is to further show their personality and motives through physical appearance.
Well, in real life King Xerces was actually know to have a temper and was an angry king when it comes to persian standards for kings. I think he crucified leonidas's body and cut off the head after the battle cause he was angry he lost so many men, when normally the persians respected and honored those they fought in battle. So, no need to defend him.
But then again, Xerces also ran around in a gilded thong in the movie... ^_^ i'm not sure if that's historically accurate either! hee hee!
The movie was not supposed to be realistic. I thought they did a great job bringing the comic book to life. The detales are twisted to make a better book but the movie was amed at slo-mo beheadings and huge armys. I hope everybody takes this at face value and doesn't try to turn this into some kind of racial sterotype.
P.S. Don't piss of Hassun everybody!
I don't think 300 could possibly have had spoilers.
HISTORY LOL!
More or less anyway. I'm pretty sure there wasn't anyone who didn't know what the end result of the movie was going to be.
Anyway, I must say, despite adamant disdain for the movie when it was coming out, I must admit that it was probably the manliest movie I have ever seen.
Scratch that, "300" was a PARADE OF MANLINESS. I think the only thing missing from 300 was a scene of Spartan men burping, scratching, and smoking cigars.
