Gamespot doesn't seem to think it's a masterpiece...

Advent Rising was a title released solely for the X-box. It was supposed to be a masterpiece, but in sales was ultimately a big flop. Still, there were a lot of redeeming qualities to Advent Rising. It had a musical score composed by music genius Tommy Tallirico that's argueably one of the best in video game history. It had a story and dialogue written by renowned science fiction author Orson Scott Card. It brought up deep themes of the capabilities of humanity. There's actually a comic based on the game that's still being published with notable success. Why do you think that the game it'self failed? If you played the game, what were your opinions of it?

I know that. Advent Rising was a nightmare to professional critics. What I mean when I say that it was meant to be a masterpiece is that Majesco meant for it to be a beautiful showpiece. The company hired many top-of-the-line professionals for this game, and really got a very good return from the people they hired. Why was it a critical and sales disaster?
Sometimes people try too hard. This isn't the first time something like this happened in the gaming industry.Originally Posted by Jet Black
