I love Jaws, and I agree, the movie was better then the book. I also have the video game which is just down right funny and fun as hell as you actually play as Jaws, or as his creators named him, Bruce.
Many good movies had there start and books. Battle Royale, The Lord Of the Rings and Conana the barbarian to name a few. Generally the book is better than the movie. But in a few cases and a very few the movie triumphs over the book. Jaws is my favorite. The mob connection with Brody the affair between the Chiefs wife and Hooper did not need to be there. The way the shark died as well in the movie is awesome.

Twlight was the only movie I liked, that I know off hand was based off a book. I didn't read the book, because I don't have time to read books. The movie was funny, and kinda romantic just like the book version probably was.

I'm leaning towards either The Lord of the Rings Trilogy or Fight Club
They're the first two that come to mind that the movie industry did not screw up, stayed true (more or less) to the book and enjoyable.
That's all I ever asked for. Although the special effects for Lord of the Rings was an added bonus

well i loved the book of Harry Potter XD ... and i think they did a very good job in the movie XD , the book is nice to read becasue you enjoy reading it and imagining everything in your head ...
and the movie is nice to watch becasue you enjoy watching it and see everything ^_^ Nu~ .... =^_^=

Considering there's not a very large amount of good book related movies, this is a hard one. I mean, the good thing about movies is they tend to cut a lot of the bullcrap out of the books, so you just get what anyone would expect from a movie.
But obviously Jackson's "The Lord Of The Rings" trilogy was the best.

Im not sure I'd call it the best. I can't chose an ultimate best, so let me just do favorites.
Uhm ... The Color Purple, one of my favorite movies. Oooh and Joy Luck Club. Since Im naming off chick flicks, I may as well give Jinx props for throwing out Memoirs of a Geisha.
Does anyone remember "Alive"? That plane crash movie? That wasn't even that great of a movie... but it still sort of sticks with me.
