Commercials
America is run by Advertisements. Everywhere you look there's an ad on the streets, a magazine, online, the t.v., etc. Lately I've been paying more attention to commercials on television and how many of them are taking the 'comedic' route.. that is, "Haha, that was funny.. it actually made me laugh! :)", as well as the artistic route, (dancing, singing..etc)
Which style of advertising do you feel is more effective? Ones that make you laugh, ones that you can sing along with when you see or hear it again, simple commercials.. Which style is more effective and why?
I personally enjoy those that make me laugh, however sometimes I forget or don't understand what it is they're advertising. You get so caught up in the commercial that you forget the product that it's selling! And I was just curious to know what you guys thought about it and how you felt :]
I love the fave five commercials from T-mobile, they always have a silly plot line that make me giggle.. I have sprint, but lol the commercials are funny. Especially that one commercial where the father tells his daughter's boyfriend that he's next to him on her fave five so it's as if he's watching him.. all the time, lol :D. link
I also love the Geico commercials with the cavemen.
I don't know, to me funny is more effective for remembering.. but sometimes these commercials come up with the weirdest plot lines, and it's like.. "okay.. what was it selling, again?"

Re: Commercials
Which ones I like best? The comedic ones, if I have to watch comericals in between my shows I want a little bit of entertainment. That doesn't mean I always remember what they are advertising. There is a cell phone commercial where the guy doesn't get service so he doesn't get the call telling him how to pronounce the Chinese clients name and calls him funny fish face or something. I laughed out loud at that one but for the life of me I can't remember the company.
As for the most effective, the ones that have songs usually. I get the stupid song stuck in my head which usually has the brand so I remember it.
In all reality it would be nice if there wasn't commercials in the first place. I mean I pay monthly for my cable so I can watch commercials? Thats a whole different discussion though.

Re: Commercials
Yeh, songs work as well. 'Specially that Subway, five dollars - foot long one. Or that new 89 cents Taco Bell burrito rap.
I agree, too many commercials, especially when you're watching a new episode of something, commercials always seem to be the majority of the show.

Re: Commercials
Its more like the world is run by advertisements then just America but what ever. As for the commercials I like, would have to be those that are comedic and funny, that was my 30 seconds wasn’t a complete total waist of time. I don’t care about the advertisement; to me it’s like watching a really strange version of a news paper comic. How ever for the most part, I don’t pay any attention to them as I generally do something else until the show comes back on.

Re: Commercials
I usually hate commercials, that's why I watch the movie channels only (occaionally Cartoon Network). But, the ones that actually ARE funny I do enjoy. I mean, could care less what they're selling but it was funny. Othewise when I do come across them I usualy go "Dammit, I want that time back!!"

Re: Commercials
I like the commercials that are funny better too, because they aren't boring and they really never start to bugg me (if the joke is good that is), sometiems they can overdo it, for example there is an ad in UK about some jelly beans, where a really ugly and skinny guy is dancing in a really stupid way and eating jelly beans... I simply don't understand it.. it looks so stupid!!! I even feel ashamed for the poor actor >.<
I also find that funny commercials are more memorable than others. I don't EVER remember the simple ones (unless they show something I really need, like a sale for Shweppes drinks in TESCO) and, with the artistic ones- I mostly don't understand what it is about untill the end of it (sometimes even then it's unclear), so surely I don't remember what it showed, for example there was a car ad where people were dancing, and showing with their dance parts of a car. Well I don't know much about car parts so it gives nothing to me. And men don't like dancing that much so... don't even understand what they are aiming for...
So funny ones it is!!! ^^

Re: Commercials
Well when it comes to advertistments... and commercial...it has to be the funny and.. creatively made ones.. ^^ I have seen many nice ones... very funny indeed.. :p
Like.. there was this new..commercial for a car...shows the car on the side of the lake.. and there was this guy who was jogging.. then he spots the car..and goes close to it because he was interested or likes the car... and Poof! suddenly Lochness monster grab that guy into the water and made the "advertistment board" (which is what the car is actually.. a bait) fell.. then it the monster puts it back like it was.. o.O really funny.. :p
Funny ones rules! ^^

Re: Commercials
Songs get my attention the most. Some are boring and just plain dumb. But other are silly. They sometimes know how to get ones attention. Like that dude dancing about that gum or whatever it was and they say that most woman would prefer smaller babies and then at the end the singers say,"Healthy babies is the way to go" or w/e and then the dude says..wait what?? And the people are i think disturbed by this lol. Example that new Bazooka Bubble gum song. It is stupid yet funny at the same time.
"My mom
She gave me a dollar
She told me to buy a collar
But i didn't buy no collar
Instead I bought some Bubble Gum
Bazooka, zooka Bubble Gum (X2)"
Funny song...lol
