![]() | Disney Co. (DIS) has agreed to acquire Marvel Entertainment Co. (MVL) for $4 billion, merging the corporate parent of Mickey Mouse and Hannah Montana with that of Spider-Man and the Incredible Hulk. It is the second multi-billion deal announced today. Earlier today, Baker Hughes Inc. (BHI) agreed to acquire smaller rival BJ Services Co. (BJS) for $5.5 billion. Under the terms of the agreement and based on the closing price of Disney on August 28, 2009, Marvel shareholders would receive a total of $30 per share in cash plus approximately 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they own. Shares of New York-based Marvel soared more than 25 percent in pre-market trading. They have risen 14 percent this year. Disney, which is based in Burbank, Calif., fell 84 cents, or three percent, to $26. The deal seems to be a smart one for Disney. Economies of scale are necessary to produce the big-budget epics that are the cornerstones of a profitable movie franchise. Lacking scale, Marvel was forced to split the profits on some of its major hits, including the Spider-Man movies. For Disney, the acquisition gives it more than 5,000 Marvel characters. Marvel CEO Ike Perlmutter will oversee the Marvel properties. "This transaction combines Marvel's strong global brand and world-renowned library of characters including Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America, Fantastic Four and Thor with Disney's creative skills, unparalleled global portfolio of entertainment properties, and a business structure that maximizes the value of creative properties across multiple platforms and territories," said Disney CEO Robert A. Iger, in the press release. Disney deal gives Marvel Entertainment the scale it needs -- DailyFinance This is one of the saddest days in marvel's history I read and collect The punisher Series (all of them) So i am question-ing this move, and where will marvel be heading in the years to come.. So what do you all think about This move by Disney and how do you see it from Marvel's point of veiw? |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Disney buys marvel Tis a sad, sad day in the world of comic books. I don't know if I'll ever read a Marvel comic ever again--depending on what Disney plans to do with Marvel. I know that a lot of the action will be watered down, considering that Disney isn't big on violence. I, like Len said, also wonder what's gonna happen with all the anime/manga co-productions. Either way, I'd have much rather heard that Marvel and DC were merging than hear that Mickey Mouse is gonna be the new face of Marvel Comics...

![]() | Re: Disney buys marvel when i first read the title i thought it to be just some practical joke, but its actually true. noooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh what is wrong with the world today???? why did this have to happen? could u imagine if mickey mouse suddenly appeared to save the day against green goblin. look i am not the biggest comic book fan, but i know this is a big mistake. disney can not do superheroes. now its going to become very childish. i got nothing against disney, i mean i grew up watching it, but they should just stay in their own genre. there are just some things u don't mix together. i don't think this will turn out like kingdom hearts.

INTRODUCING THE NEXT GREATEST FAD---- marvel on ice. see the big green angry guy twirl elegantly in time with x-men's littlest mutant kitty!~ from a gaming perspective i hope this doesn't hurt the marvel vs. series. even though the just re-released marvel vs. capcom 2 i've had my fingers crossed for years for a 3rd installment. it's a top 3 fighting game on any list. or it should be anyhow n.n
