Which Final Fantasy game is the best?

I had just gotten through watching the japanese version of Final Fantasy: Advent Children, when I realized that the movie was about Final Fantasy VII, and that the FF series was still going strong. There have been many installments in the Final Fantasy series over the years. Some have been so good as to still be as to still be a standard by which modern RPG's are compared to today, while other's have simply faded into obscurity. In your opinion, what is your favorite Final Fantasy game, and why?

FFVII
i. sephroth
ii. the interaction between players characters (e.g. backstories and the dating game bit)
iii. the ultimate bosses
iv. we are the good guys, yeah but we killed thousands of inocent people - because of our actions...
v. great lvl scaling and weapons armour etc. to match - this was one the few games that made me wanna farm and lvl grind.

EDIT: and no silly card games
