Oh my gosh, I remember when my ex boyfriend dragged me to the theaters to go see Silent Hill. That movie was so weird, and horrifying.

it might keep you interested if not scared.
I'll be the one to protect you from your enemies and all your demons
I'll be the one to protect you from a will to survive and a voice of reason
I'll be the one to protect you from your enemies and your choices son
They're one in the same, I must isolate you...
Isolate and save you from yourself
The Exorcist is highly rated as the top horrifying flick. I preferably don't watch new horror movies, mainly because they focus on gore and really just don't know how to scare anymore. Sad.
Rosemary's Baby, The Entity, Night of the Living Dead and the Amityville Horror 1 & 2 are good. Even some of the movies that were on Elvira's Movie Macabre were good. A lot of these were on Youtube too.
The best horror flick with blood and guts are with Vincent Price as Dr. Phibes. And that's saying something, but I normally hate gore flicks, mainly because gore doesn't create horror, it creates disgust. But these are disturbing and entertaining, so check them out.

The Cube - several seemingly random selective people navigate a giant cube with several rooms each with a surprise lurking in all of them
Snow White: A Tale of Terror - basically the rated R version of Snow White with dwarves tall as giants
Most Boris Karloff films were pretty scary for their time period.
Dracula II: Ascension - brought to us by Wes Craven. It's loads of horror
That's all I've got at the moment.
Good look finding something that is actually scary and not stupid
The problem with most slasher films is that they're awful. On top of that most films with a lot of gore and blood aren't scary at all. They're funny.
Here's a small selection of films which aren't funny (intentionally or otherwise) and tried to combine scary with gore and (almost) got away with it:
28 Days Later
Renewed the zombie genre.
The Descent
Have fun spelunking after this one. Try to find the one with the original ending though. The US release got a Disney one.
Audition
Deceptive classic by Takashi Miike.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Classic and almost impossible to beat in the slasher genre.
The Mist
Recent and very well done film based on a Stephen King tale.
Session 9
Maybe not all that bloody but a plenty scary take on the classic 'haunted house' formula.
The Fly
Another classic about a man slowly turning into...
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer
Inspired by a true serial killer.
